Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Isabella Koretz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Isabella, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Family. Of course family gives me the motivation to carry on, but Pearl Wellness Center is a business founded by my mother and I. After a decade of working with one another, there is truly no situation or problem we have not been able to overcome together. Our combined resilience is the corner stone of our business. The post-operative field is ever-changing, and I would say that challenge also ignites a need for resilience and flexibility. You learn, you grow, you keep going. And it helps to have your most trusted advisor – your mother – be compassionate and encouraging yet honest and motivating by your side.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am co-founder of one of Los Angeles’s longest running luxury post operative recovery retreats, more well known as Pearl Wellness Center. Most recently, we have moved to a boutique, private destination off Melrose and this new home has given us a chance to really do things our way and to the best of our ability. In this industry people tend to stick to the status quo and play it safe but at Pearl Wellness center we find that innovation and knowledge of the healing world is imperative to our mission. We approach every individual as such and our services cater to that model from a custom culinary corner to the latest in healing treatments. My team and I are extremely excited for the next year ahead and look forward to continue to define the elite standard.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Adaptability, patience, and knowing your worth. This is Los Angeles, and anyone would be a fool to think that you don’t have to adjust and adapt to the coming tides. During COVID, I think a lot of businesses learned this skill, but adapting is really a quality that you need to have as a business, owner and person. You need to be able to look at the world around you and see how your business can be of service not just in the now but for the future or else, what future does your business really have? And yet at the same time, you need to know what it is you can exactly do so well that you do it better than others, and understand the real worth you can provide both in the now and the future.
Finally, patience is learned in both the adapting and worthiness process and it definitely helps when considering what kind of employer you want to be and what kind of employers people want to work for. If you want the best, you have to be the best, and that includes being an employer who people want to do the best work for.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I am a believer in the mind-body connection and when I feel mentally overwhelmed, I understand that one must go about addressing these feelings a certain way, or the manifested physicality of them may create an even bigger issue than the one at hand. My advice for people who are dealing with those early feelings of frustration or overwhelm, is to learn how to put the problem outside of yourself, outside of your body and in front of you so that you might approach it from not just a calm place but an articulate efficient and productive one. What really is a problem but something to solve, make sense of and grow from? Business is a perspective and feeling overwhelmed means you have to address those feelings or you alter and blur your perspective for the worse.
