We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Nesbitt recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
As I’ve gotten older, self care goes far more than my favorite aesthetic things to do, such as my spa time, traveling, alongside with getting my hair and nails done because, I love all of those things deeply!! However, It goes into an effort of good health ( a balanced head space with therapy sessions to heal and reflect a better me. Yoga with my daughter, gym sessions, & most importantly changing certain health habits from food & even the company I keep with others! The effectiveness impacts my businesses & my wellbeing. With being a business owner, I provide the best quality, when I’m at my best! From event planning and event marketing. Being in the entrepreneurial fields, it requires consistent growth and faith! That starts with me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Well my name is Jasmine Nesbitt, to my clients/ associates I go by Jasmine or “ Samiya” which is my middle name. I’m the CEO of 1123 LLC an event design and planning company. Established, October 2017. Servicing the Memphis, Arkansas, and surrounding areas. Within the past year I’ve grown in fields with Media Management to offer services( from photography, videography, visual content creation that can assist other small businesses/business owners all the way to assisting lifestyle brands and influencers. My something new, is finally completing my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management. Applying that knowledge into my career to either go up further at my current employer with the Department of Treasury or to build other relationships and grow my entrepreneurial skills full time! I’m very excited! I’ll be the first in my family to graduate from an HBCU | Historically Black College University. LeMonye-Owen College in Memphis Tennessee.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For me, areas of knowledge that’s been the most impactful has been consistency, stepping outside the box, and to continue with the trends! I’m never not, growing! Growing can include furthering my education, completing a balloon design class, taking certain webinars on my craft! You name it, I need it; to grow further! I’m not perfect ! I don’t know everything. However, learning is everything!! A year ago my mom saw a post about ” Cynthia Daniels ” she’s a very successful event strategist in the city of Memphis. I applied and was hired! It’s an experience that shouldn’t go unseen, it’s a lot of time invested to put on major events. I’m learning growth about sponsored event planning, design management with strategic development in festivals, social cocktails, mixers and nonprofit social benefits. Working with her on this level has provided me growth opportunities by expansions within my businesses to serve on another level from event design, coordination, community, visual design in marketing, and even my confidence! I’ve been through a lot.
A lot of isolation, prayer, work-life balance, growth, alongside with perseverance! Placing my business on what people would say, on the back burner! I saw it as an opportunity of continuous growth and valued improvement to work for the best! So, I can build and become the best in my own field of work! It’s been the most abundant position that I enjoy, and a brand I’m proud to be apart of!
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
There are two books that has played a very important part with my development. In my Management theory course, I read the book “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencion.” Being able to identify the dynamics of a team and acknowledge the dysfunctions. To create real solutions and digest problems in the work place, can be applied in my own enterprises from all levels of business as well as on a human resource level!
The last and very most significant book is by Rick Ross : The perfect day to boss up! Rick Ross highlights his ups and downs within his music journey however, his entrepreneurial journey from how to build a successful team, beat the obstacles and expand on every creative aspect with everyday mental, physical and financial highlights the importance to become your own boss! It’s a book every entrepreneur should read.
“ The idea is to remain patient when working towards anything. You don’t need to move fast, you need to move correctly. The “when” part is up to GOD, and he has his own master plan that’s more complicated than you or I could even begin to understand. You’ve got to trust that he always knows what he’s doing, even during your darkest moments when it feels like he may have forgotten about you. “. – Rick Ross
