Meet Tony Omotayo

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tony Omotayo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tony below.

Hi Tony , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My purpose didn’t come from a deliberate search; it actually found me through a series of experiences that shaped who I am today. Throughout my journey, especially including my time playing basketball overseas, I often found myself as the only one in the room who looked like me. These moments, while challenging, taught me resilience and the importance of representation. Each experience pushed me to be more introspective and dig deeper within myself and understand the unique value I bring to the table. I also had to navigate the challenge of people trying to mimic my exact moves as soon as they saw my success. I’ve lived my life in the public eye for quite some time. Constantly being under the microscope forced me to stay innovative and true to my vision, reinforcing my belief in the unique contributions only I could make. Generosity has always been a cornerstone of my existence. The challenges I faced highlighted the importance of giving back and supporting others who might feel as isolated as I once did. Through mentorship and community involvement, I found that helping others also enriched my own life, reinforcing the sense of purpose that I now hold dear. In the end, my purpose found me through a blend of these experiences. It is rooted in resilience, shaped by overcoming obstacles, and enriched by the act of giving. I am driven by a desire to make a difference, to pave the way for others, and to ensure that no one else feels like they don’t have a voice. Ultimately, I strive to leave a lasting legacy—one that is LEGENDARY, if you will. This is the purpose that guides me every day.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

The Atlanta Legends is a fully integrated program where basketball greatness meets community flair! We offer training for everyone, from pros to beginners, and our semi-pro team is a two-time UMBL champion. Beyond the game, our majorette dance, and spirit teams bring unmatched energy. We’re not just building athletes; we’re creating community superheroes. As part of our 10th Anniversary celebration this year, we have launched our Young Legends Foundation. As of January 2024 The Young Legends Foundation is bridging the gap between at-risk youth and their potential, providing mentorship and opportunities for success.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, leadership, and vision. Resilience helped me navigate the highs and lows of a professional basketball career, allowing me to bounce back from setbacks, injuries, and language barriers stronger than before. Leadership has been crucial in managing a team and co-owning a league, ensuring that I can inspire and guide others effectively. Lastly, vision has enabled me to see beyond the present, making strategic decisions that drive long-term success and philanthropy.

I strongly advise anyone who is early in their journey to believe in yourself to no end. I often say I’m unpolished and unapologetic. In layman’s terms, “live your life at full speed and enjoy the experiences that come with it.”

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

We are always looking for folks to partner or collaborate with.
