Meet Holly Teegarden

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Holly Teegarden a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Holly, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

After experiencing burnout from my position as a marketing executive, I took a break from work and devoted time to improving myself. During this period, I discovered the benefits of self-care through supplements, particularly those containing hemp which alleviated my anxiety, improved my sleep, and lifted my mood. As I shared my positive experiences with friends, I realized I wanted to extend this knowledge to other women, beyond my immediate circle. Thus, four years ago, I founded Moodporium, a store offering wellness products, including hemp-based items, curated by mood. This venture has been successful, but as the cannabis industry evolved, I recognized a need for a community specifically for women aged 35 and over, particularly those with children who are not openly accepting of marijuana use. To address this, I started MoodRXtreats last year, a luxurious wellness retreat designed for women seeking a nurturing, non-judgmental environment where they can relax and be themselves. My ultimate goal is to support and uplift women who may have previously felt overlooked, offering wellness solutions rather than solely promoting wine consumption.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

With over 15 years of experience in digital marketing, I have served as a leader for clients ranging from Fortune 50 to 500 in a variety of industries. My track record of successful campaigns and strategies is well-documented, and I pride myself on working closely with clients to execute every aspect of digital marketing, from social media and analytics mining to paid and organic advertising. As an early pioneer in social media and digital marketing, I have always been passionate about staying ahead of the curve.

However, my focus has shifted in recent years as I have become a cannabis entrepreneur. My goal is to use plant medicine & wellness products to help women improve their lives. Starting with a brick-and-mortar store in Sewickley, PA, I have since grown my business into a thriving online store, with additional ventures such as MoodRXtreats, Cannamood Apparel, and The Moodment blog. My ultimate objective is to create a MOODment in the US by championing the benefits of plant medicine.

Above and beyond this, I’m a mom to a rising Senior in HS, wife and live a beautiful life in a small village.

The next thing I’m working on is how all of these companies can intersect together making one big brand and growing out an online community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

As an industry professional in an ever-changing, frustrating, and agile environment, I have developed and refined various skills over time. Firstly, agility is critical; I had to navigate challenges when major players like Paypal, Venmo, and Stripe abruptly suspended my accounts without cause. I quickly had to pivot and adapt, setting up a new website and figuring out new banking arrangements without succumbing to anger.

Secondly, maintaining a thirst for knowledge is imperative in this industry. Given the constant changes, staying informed is vital to keep up with the competition and succeed. Those who stop learning inevitably fall behind.

Finally, the ability to fail and learn from failure is crucial. Throwing everything against the wall and seeing what sticks is the best way to discern what works and what doesn’t. This approach has enabled me to evolve and improve.

For anyone considering entering the cannabis field, I offer the following advice: Be prepared to encounter financial loss, the stigma of being associated with this industry, and potential loss of relationships. But, if you possess genuine passion for this industry, persevere and keep pushing forward. We need more individuals with such passion to move this industry forward.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The entrepreneur I have become today owes much to the guidance of my father, who himself was a successful entrepreneur when I was just a toddler. At the age of 16, he imparted a valuable lesson, telling me to go out and earn my own money rather than relying on his. This message of self-sufficiency and determination resonated deeply with me and shaped my mindset towards achieving success. His teachings on the virtues of hustle and tenacity have stayed with me ever since, and I credit him for helping me build the foundations of my own business.
