Meet Kelly Elsas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelly Elsas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

Thank you so much for having me! I think risks are very similar to opportunities if you really break it down. I developed my ability to take risks by looking at the facts first. Knowledge dispels fear.

That being said, it definitely depends on the risk. Some situations require research and major judgement calls. Other situations I just simply try not to over think it and see what happens. Sometimes feeling uncomfortable doesn’t mean it’s wrong. I’m also kinda wild. I’ve been skydiving and bungee jumping. So, if that’s not your thing – I totally get it! Risks come at all levels.

I will say some of the best decisions I’ve made in my life started out as risks. Who knows, the result might turn out better than you imagined. If it’s important to you, go for it. I think we should all experience as much as possible in this lifetime.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Of course! My story started on the East Coast. I was born in New York City. I’ve been in Los Angeles for about four years. I really love what I do, I have a really great acting coach and I love my agents at Nine9 and manager at Fame Management. I feel really grateful for everything that’s happened in my life to date.

I’m an actress. There’s honestly so many elements that I love about the film industry. I will say the reason I got into this business was because I love being on-set. They are some of the happiest moments in my life. I love the constant change and flow of everyone working together to create something bigger than ourselves. It’s hard to put into words, but I love the camaraderie between the cast and crew. You spend so much time together. Everyone I’ve had the opportunity to work with has been so focused. talented and detailed. I honestly love every minute of it.

I have a couple of projects lined up for this year that I’m very excited about! I just saw the private screening for a projects set to come out soon. It’s a comedy/ thriller genre. It possibly has to do with killer sorority girls. I can’t say too much. But, I’m really excited for you guys to see it!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. You’re More Prepared Than You Think
I remind myself that it wouldn’t have happened if I wasn’t ready for it. It helps me stay focused, motivated and confident in all areas of my life.

2. Don’t Give People A Reason To Say A Bad Word About You
I believe treating people with kindness and respect goes a long way.

3. Fill Your Life With People You Genuinely Have Fun With
Honestly, I love my friends so much. They are some of the most positive and hilarious people I know. I think low drama and laughing a lot is a huge green flag for me. I believe a calm personal life elevates high paced and unpredictable professional lives.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m overwhelmed, it’s usually a sign that I need to pause. I usually go to the gym or my local yoga studio. I’m obsessed with hot yoga right now! For me, physical exercise provides me with a lot of clarity and peace.

If that doesn’t work, I usually will call one of my friends or go for a long car ride. I write a lot and pray sometimes too.

Thank you again for taking the time to interview me! I always have the best experience working with your team.
