Meet Ivan Giang

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ivan Giang a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Ivan, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose after spending countless time working in a restaurant setting always working holidays and never being able to have a personal life. After awhile it started affecting my mental health after spending 15 years of my life working 12-14 hrs 6 days a week in a kitchen environment. After I quit the restaurant life the pandemic hit I had a lot of time to reflect my mental heath was up and down I felt I was missing something in my life. Then one day my friend Ximena and my family encouraged me to try starting my own sushi catering business during the pandemic and I have never look back sense the journey continues always moving forward and learning more and more about myself at the same time

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My focus is always changing as of right now my focus is providing affordable sushi for people and pets creating a fun environment bringing only positive vibes and spreading kindness which the worlds lacks. I always get excited meeting new people and making new friends at my catering events and brewery that I pop up at also sampling flights of craft beers at local brewery sharing stories with the owner at the brewery and watching people enjoy the food I serve bring joy to my heart ❤️ I really try to build a brand that is fun and exciting. Side note My story/ journey started on the sidewalk in Korean town during the pandemic while tackling with mental health issues and personal life but I’m glad I had my family, friends and Brazilian jiu jistu they were the light at the end of the tunnel for me. My journey still continues i enjoy the journey more then the destination. I always try to remember to count my blessings and enjoy every moment in life cause nothing is forever ♾

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back the three qualities/ skills I learn would be #1 understanding yourself do what bring joy to your life don’t let other affect your life and wellbeing the grass is always greener on the other side do what you love 💗 #2 work hard and develop your skills don’t be afraid of failure fear kills dreams take risk you won’t know unless you put yourself in uncomfortable positions. It good to fail fail hard fail better those failures will help you in the long run #3 don’t be afraid to ask questions or make a fool of yourself ask as many questions as you need there no right or wrong questions absorb and embrace everything that comes at you with a grain of salt !!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Whenever I feel overwhelmed I go to practice at my Brazilian jiu jistu academy I disconnect from the world and just focus on my training. I also enjoy going to the beach and just sitting in the sand and watching the waves in the ocean no social media no distraction and hanging out with my friends and family. This is what works for me you just gotta find what works for you when you’re overwhelmed everyone is different there no universal standards experiment and have fun try not to take life to serious.
