Meet Marcus Evans

We were lucky to catch up with Marcus Evans recently and have shared our conversation below.

Marcus, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from realizing I missed out on achieving goals, in times past, by being out worked by people with the same goals. I don’t want to make that mistake again. Also, the people I look up to and people who are on top are tireless workers!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m an actor/comedian/director/producer and writer from Chicago, but I live in LA. Moving to LA is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. LA keeps getting better and better.

Laughter does good like medicine, so when I’m doing standup and improv, I want to give people as much medicine as possible.

My brand is family friendly, so anyone can see and hear what I do on stage.

If you are in LA, feel free to come to the free shows I produce at the clubhouse.

Also, I’m in the process of writing my own sitcom. This will be my greatest work.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The 3 qualities that got me to this point are: persistence (you have to have this in LA, especially if you are in the entertainment industry), character (no one wants to work with or be around bad people) and hustle (leaders lead with diligence).

Let me put in a plug for improvisation. This is one of the greatest skills a person can attain, whether they are in entertainment or not. This skill helps with everything!

In addition to that, I would say, write a to do list each day (or preferably the night before) and get as much done each day as possible. Also, it helps to think about what you haven’t done to achieve your goals. What you haven’t done, could be blocking your progress.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful things my parents did for me was instilling wisdom and diligence.

With these 2 things, you can get anything you need, want or desire in this life.
