Meet Valerie Schimel

We were lucky to catch up with Valerie Schimel recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Valerie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

As a wife, mother, daughter and entrepreneur, I am continuously finding my purpose. I started JOJU because I believe deeply in the power of spending time outdoors. Time spent in nature is good for body, mind & soul – and sun protection is of utmost importance. I have a personal history of skin cancer and a deep concern for protecting my skin. I built JOJU to inspire people to spend time outside – safely and comfortably.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

JOJU Is a new line of luxury sun protective clothing. We make buttery soft, ultra lightweight, UPF 50+ sun shirts perfect for tennis, golf, biking, hiking, boating and outdoor living. Our shirts are made in Europe from Italian fabric – our focus is on quality, design and function. We independently lab test each of our fabrics to ensure max UPF 50+ protection and iterate every cut many times over to make sure each style is chic, comfortable & flattering.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I am creative, brave and resourceful. Being an entrepreneur requires a fair amount of all three – one needs to be creative enough to generate the idea, brave enough to take the leap and resourceful enough to execute – I started JOJU by googling “how to make a shirt.”

My best advice is to ask a lot of questions, chat with anyone who will talk to you, share your expertise along the way & help others – karma is real & people are kind.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

Our ideal client is an outdoor lover. Anyone who spends time outside and understands the importance and value in protecting his/her skin. JOJU helps protect against skin cancer and sun damage.
