Meet Valeria Torres

We were lucky to catch up with Valeria Torres recently and have shared our conversation below.

Valeria, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I derive my resilience from always maintaining a winning mindset and an unwavering ambition to be the best version of myself. This drive fuels my determination to face challenges head-on and view setbacks as opportunities for growth. My resilience is rooted in the belief that every obstacle is a chance to learn, adapt, and improve. This perspective helps me stay focused and motivated, no matter the difficulties I encounter.

A key source of my resilience is the value I place on education, a tool I was taught no one could ever take away from me. This belief has driven me to pursue knowledge relentlessly, culminating in a master’s degree and now propelling me towards a doctorate. Through my academic journey, I’ve not only gained extensive knowledge but also learned the importance of perseverance and hard work. This educational foundation empowers me to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.

Moreover, I am passionate about sharing the concept of being limitless with those around me. I believe there are no limits that can’t be pushed, surpassed, or utilized to propel us forward. This philosophy fuels my resilience, reminding me of the boundless potential within each of us. By teaching and embodying this belief, I inspire others to recognize their own strengths and capabilities, creating a ripple effect of resilience and empowerment in my community.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

This transformation extends beyond professional success, fostering a holistic approach to personal and organizational development. It’s this profound and lasting change that makes my work truly special.

These programs will provide practical tools and strategies for individuals to apply in their personal and professional lives. Additionally, I am working on a book that delves into the principles of resilience and limitless potential, drawing from my experiences and academic insights. Outside of my professional endeavors, I love traveling the world, meeting new people, and sharing my passion for helping others unleash their full potential. Through these new initiatives and my ongoing work, I aim to inspire and empower a broader audience to embrace their boundless capabilities.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey: resilience, strategic thinking, and a commitment to continuous learning.

First, resilience has been crucial in overcoming challenges and setbacks. It’s important to develop a mindset that views obstacles as opportunities for growth. For those early in their journey, building resilience involves embracing failures, learning from them, and staying persistent. Regularly reflecting on past experiences and identifying the lessons they offer can help cultivate this resilience.

Second, strategic thinking has been essential in navigating complex problems and making informed decisions. This skill involves analyzing situations from multiple perspectives and anticipating potential outcomes. To develop strategic thinking, I recommend engaging in activities that challenge your problem-solving abilities, such as strategic games, simulations, or case studies. Seeking mentorship from experienced professionals can also provide valuable insights into effective decision-making processes.

Lastly, a commitment to continuous learning has driven my growth and adaptability. Pursuing advanced degrees, certifications, and staying updated with industry trends has equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to excel. For those starting out, fostering a love for learning is key. This can be achieved by setting personal learning goals, attending workshops and seminars, reading extensively, and seeking opportunities for professional development. Embrace curiosity and never stop seeking new knowledge.

By focusing on resilience, strategic thinking, and continuous learning, individuals can build a strong foundation for their personal and professional journeys.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

One book that has played a significant role in my development is “No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline” by Brian Tracy. This book offers numerous valuable insights that have greatly influenced my approach to personal and professional growth. Here are a few impactful nuggets of wisdom from the book:

The Importance of Self-Discipline: Tracy emphasizes that self-discipline is the cornerstone of success in any field. He argues that the ability to delay gratification, stay focused, and consistently work towards long-term goals is what separates successful individuals from others. This principle has inspired me to prioritize self-discipline in my daily routines and long-term planning.

Taking Responsibility: Tracy stresses the importance of taking full responsibility for one’s life. This involves acknowledging that we are in control of our actions and decisions, and consequently, our successes and failures. This mindset shift has empowered me to take ownership of my journey and actively seek solutions rather than making excuses.

The “Eat That Frog” Principle: One of the standout concepts in the book is the idea of tackling the most challenging and important tasks first each day. This principle, known as “eating the frog,” has helped me enhance my productivity and ensure that I am consistently making progress on my most critical goals.

Continuous Learning and Improvement: Tracy advocates for lifelong learning and constant self-improvement. He encourages readers to invest in their personal and professional development through reading, attending seminars, and seeking mentorship. This advice has reinforced my commitment to continuous learning, which has been a driving force in my career.

Goal Setting and Planning: The book provides practical strategies for setting clear, achievable goals and developing detailed plans to achieve them. Tracy’s approach to goal setting has helped me define my objectives with clarity and create actionable plans to reach them, ultimately driving my success.

Overall, “No Excuses!” has been a transformative read, providing me with practical tools and a mindset that has significantly contributed to my growth and achievements.
