We were lucky to catch up with Aaron Winder recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aaron , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My journey to finding my purpose wasn’t a smooth, paved path—it was a gritty, determined climb. Growing up in Las Vegas, I saw firsthand the struggles and injustices that people in our community face daily. My career started in the healthcare sector, where I witnessed the harsh reality of disparities in access and treatment. Negotiating contracts between health insurance companies, physicians, and hospitals made me realize how broken the system was and how it often left the most vulnerable behind. This harsh reality sparked a fire in me. I knew I had to do more than just watch from the sidelines.
So, I pursued a law degree at Gonzaga University School of Law, where I led the Black Law Students Association and earned a spot in the prestigious LEAD Washington Diversity Fellowship Program. These experiences sharpened my resolve and guided me to personal injury law, a battleground where the stakes are incredibly high. At Winder Law Firm, we don’t just handle cases; we fight for people’s lives and futures. My legal philosophy is rooted in relentless advocacy and compassion, ensuring every client knows they’re not just another case file but a person whose fight for justice becomes deeply personal to me. My purpose is clear: to be a relentless advocate for those who’ve been wronged and to ensure no one in my community has to face injustice alone.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
What sets Winder Law Firm apart is our raw, unfiltered dedication to each case. Being a fourth-generation Las Vegas native, I understand the grit and resilience of this community. My clients are not just numbers; they’re neighbors, friends, and community members who deserve to have someone fight for them. Our approach is personal, aggressive, and relentless. We operate on a contingency fee basis—no upfront fees, no hidden costs. You don’t pay unless we win. This isn’t just about making legal representation accessible; it’s about putting everything on the line for our clients, so they know we’re fully committed to their cause.
My roots in Las Vegas run deep, and my commitment to this city goes beyond the courtroom. Whether it’s supporting local sports teams like the UNLV Rebels, the Golden Knights, or the Raiders, or engaging in community events, my dedication to Las Vegas is unwavering. This city shaped me, and now, I’m giving back by fighting for justice here. At Winder Law Firm, we’re more than just legal professionals; we’re a force for justice in our community.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience:
Every business journey is full of challenges and setbacks. Resilience has been essential in pushing through tough times and staying committed to my goals. For those starting out, my advice is to develop a strong mental toughness and understand that setbacks are part of the journey.
Empathy:
Understanding and genuinely caring about others’ struggles has been vital. Empathy allows me to connect with clients, colleagues, and the community on a personal level. To develop this, spend time listening actively and putting yourself in others’ shoes.
Communication:
Clear and effective communication is crucial for building trust and presenting ideas convincingly. It’s important to articulate complex concepts in a way that everyone can understand. For newcomers, practice and refine your communication skills through public speaking and writing.
For those early in their journey, focus on building these qualities. Stay resilient through challenges, cultivate empathy to connect with and understand others, and continuously improve your communication skills. These will serve as the foundation for a successful and fulfilling career.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I believe it’s important to be well-rounded, but at the end of the day, going all in on your strengths and what brings you happiness is the way to go. In my career, I’ve found that focusing on my strengths—such as negotiation, fighting for the community, and interpersonal communication—has been key to my success. Whether it’s negotiating tough deals, standing up for important causes, or connecting with clients and colleagues, using these skills to their fullest potential has allowed me to make a significant impact.
By honing these strengths, I can contribute more effectively and bring greater value to my work and community. While it’s beneficial to improve on areas where we’re less strong, leveraging what we excel at and what we’re passionate about can drive us further and bring greater fulfillment. This approach can resonate across any industry, empowering professionals to excel and find satisfaction in their careers.
