We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mai Berjaoui. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mai below.
Mai, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Learning has continually expanded my perspective and understanding. Beyond the knowledge gained from books, documentaries, and art, my interactions with others have been a significant source of inspiration. I see the value in every connection, no matter how fleeting it may be.
Conversations with people, even strangers, have often sparked new ideas and perspectives and it has allowed me to see beyond what is visible, whether on the cards or in life in general. Contrary to the notion that originality comes from isolation, I believe that my creativity is fueled by these connections, acting like a spark of some sort that ignites the trailing thought through the mind.
Additionally, I have found creativity through nature, specifically gardening and planting. The way seeds grow and flowers bloom fuels my inspiration and continually teaches me to be patient and curious on what will bloom next.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been helping people interpret their lives since 2019 through tarot cards. Before I started learning tarot, I had a totally different idea of what it really was. The more I read for people the more I learned how mysteriously deep, tangent and soulful each card is and how somehow it all comes together like a story that fits the time, person, and situation perfectly.
Until this day, each time I read for someone, I am fascinated by how the tarot has been created so intrinsically whole to engulf what all of humanity experiences and feels throughout life. As a reader, I know that my own interests with psychology, human connection, mysticism and the universal mysteries is coming in service of providing a reading that is insightful, healing and encouraging to my clients and I believe that it is my responsibility to continue to grow my knowledge so that I can provide a full rounded reading to my clients.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three main qualities that propelled me to dive deeper into tarot was firstly, taking a risk to read for strangers despite my doubts and fears, secondly, being authentic and honest with each client when it comes to what tarot is, what I can provide for them and whether or not I am able to answer specific questions. And lastly, being patient with myself as I learn and grow my knowledge.
For anyone who is looking to start learning tarot, I would encourage you to feel the cards as you try to learn them. Yes, knowing what each card is called and what it means is essential, but it is merely a map of the direction the card is taking you to. Meaning, that although each card has its own meaning, it can sometimes present itself to you in a way that is unique, and this comes from an intuitive feeling that grows from within you and gets understood the more you read for others. The cards are complex and deep and it is important to not let it intimidate you nor be too hard on yourself, it will grow with you as you grow.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
At this stage in my journey I am looking to grow my career and use the knowledge I have accumulated to make art and craft things that would contribute further to the intrinsic messages of these magical cards. I am looking to create with visual artists, graphic designers, craft makers (candles, concrete, fabric, wood, etc.), writers, other readers and mystics, or anyone who has an idea and would love to collaborate on creating something out of it. There is no limit.
I would also love to do tarot as I travel, so anyone looking to host events or retreats and is thinking of including tarot reading is definitely most welcome to contact me.
