We were lucky to catch up with ELEV8 recently and have shared our conversation below.
ELEV8, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
I developed this ability by seeing what I don’t want. I see so many people who are miserable with the lives they lives because they didn’t take a chance on themselves. They didn’t take the risk. Secretly they have motivated me to keep going even when times get hard. Because atleast, no matter what happens I tried.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is ELEV8 and I am a DJ, producer and artist. Ive been in the music industry for over 10 years now. I truly can’t see my life without it.
For majority of my career I have been focused on production, songwriting, and singing up until recently. Lately I’ve been mostly focussed on DJing. Though I am still creating music on the side.
Since discovering Djing I feel another layer of myself was unlocked. There’s so much that goes into creating music and being able to express myself in another way is so rewarding.
I’ve began to gain traction from artists such as Mr. Vegas, Vict0ny, Collie Budz from my viral mashup blends on social media.
This past year I even got to DJ for a TikTok Canada event, did my first New Years party that was location based, and to top it off I got to DJ at the CBC centre in Toronto.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Knowing what you want, working at it consistently and pushing through the hard times. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t an easy ride, but knowing what you want is key. And keep in mind your wants can change along the way. And then I would say try, go after it, and fail aka learn. Because through everything you don’t figure out or understand yet, you gain understanding. That’s what I did. I did a TON or trial an error. I “failed’ more than you would even know, but that’s how I learned everything I know.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
My mindset. Once I started to focus more on my mind and unlearning things and habits from the past, that’s when everything started to change.
