Meet Clyde Singleton

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Clyde Singleton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Clyde, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

My optimism comes from the invaluable presence of those who has effected my life’s journey. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to build relationships where people freely share their joys and tribulations with me. Each encounter enriches my understanding of human resilience and fortitude. Whenever I encounter obstacles or confront challenges, I find peace in recalling stories of others who had to confront similar challenges. Their stories help me keep pushing towards my goals during tough times. I’m really thankful for those who aren’t afraid to be open with me, because it helps us connect on a deeper level and understand each other better.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m currently finishing up my last semester at OCC, I will officially be done with school July first. I’m not sure what setting i would like to work in yet, but I’m enjoying the work flow of a SNF. I will hopefully start work right away, meaning my dog sitting days may be coming to an end. I’ve been dog sitting for many years now, I enjoy learning and experiencing the various amount of different dog breeds out there. Dogs remind me to enjoy all aspects of life and to always stay active. Although my dog sitting day may be coming to an end, I will continue to volunteer at shelters around the community, and I will be making a dog collection soon for the clothing brand. I have many ideas and goals for the brand. With school being almost done, I’ll have more time and hopefully a bigger budget. I’m planning on increasing inventory size, hosting events, and increasing my presence on social media. Also of course, continuing to create and push out DIFFERENT clothing. All products comes blank and I am able to press, embroider, or snitch them all at home in my little sweat shop. By doing so I can ensure all products are truly DIFFERENT.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that have had the most impact on my journey are being open-minded, being an active listener, and genuinely caring. Unfortunately, in today’s world, I worry that people might perceive my personality as fake. However, realizing that life is all about perspective has helped me understand that everyone experiences life differently. I strive daily to confront my biases by seeking to understand others before forming judgments. Each person has a unique life story, and I’m eager to hear and learn from it. My advice to those starting their journey is to discover the purpose behind your thoughts, never stop striving for improvement, and shape your audience rather than letting it shape you.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

One challenge I’m currently facing is expressing the meaning and purpose behind my brand. I thought I was clear with my message, but I was told it needs improvement. Now, reflecting on things, I see there’s many improvements that can be made, especially since I tend to show my differences through actions instead of words. I’m cautious about speaking up, fearing it might be misunderstood or cause cultural barriers. However, I’ve learned that actions can also be misunderstood or create cultural divides. Therefore, I must continue to grow myself in order to encourage a diverse community. I will work on clearly expressing what it means to be DIFFERENT by actively enhancing both the quality and quantity of my posts, as well as providing more opportunities for our community to connect and express themselves.
