We recently connected with Veronica Barney and have shared our conversation below.
Veronica, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
My self-discipline stems from a deep-rooted desire to excel. This drive was shaped significantly by my grandfather, an articulate and tireless learner. I would often find him immersed in a book at 4:30 AM, his dedication unwavering. He taught me the power of focus, which is unattainable without discipline. This discipline extends beyond controlling external distractions, like social media or setting healthy boundaries. It’s about equipping oneself with the necessary tools to succeed. My discipline is integral to my ability to serve my clients effectively, requiring keen attention, meticulous planning, and exhaustive research to understand their design needs. It’s a part of who I am and how I value myself.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Our surroundings can either propel or hinder us. At Veronica Design Studio, we aim to make your spaces reflect your spirit – at its best. We do more than create beautiful aesthetics with the right tile, flooring, layouts, structures, wall applications, furniture, and colors. We design to support your current life stage and to foster your evolution.
We can handle an entire project, a single room, or even a completely virtual design, depending on your needs and budget. Our flexibility is not just a trait; it’s our commitment to meeting our clients’ unique needs. We deeply value our relationships with our clients and treat them as whole individuals deserving of the finest. They are more than just occupants of spaces – they bring these spaces to life, and our mission is to enhance their life journey through our designs.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. No one who comes to you is a coincidence: I firmly believe that every client we establish a relationship with is akin to a sacred trust. We are meant to be in their lives to accomplish something together that they could not have achieved alone. This sense of purpose deeply influences how diligently we work to bring the design vision to life. It’s not just about another person, it’s about the potential to establish a significant relationship with them. Instead of asking “what can I get?”, consider “where can I give more?”. This approach will instill your work with profound meaning.
2. Never stop learning: Never assume you know it all. Maintaining humility and staying open to new ideas, methods, and perspectives will keep you flexible and solution-oriented. Every field continues to evolve, and you’ll benefit yourself and your clients by striving for continuous improvement.
3. Learn to listen: Avoid finishing other people’s sentences and set aside your perceptions when meeting new clients. Strive to listen beyond their words. If you don’t understand, ask for clarification. Never make assumptions. Trust me, this practice will greatly improve your overall life.
My advice to those who are early in their journey is to never consider personal growth as separate from professional development. The more you improve as a person, the more successful you’ll become professionally. As you work on your career through courses, degrees, or certifications, also invest time in self-improvement. Meditate, explore spirituality, go on retreats, and learn about yourself. The more you understand your inner life, the better you can connect with others. This empathy can lead to incredible success.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
At present, we’re aiming to expand our capacity to serve more clients simultaneously. We’re actively seeking to collaborate with other interior designers and entrepreneurs to expedite project completion and foster deeper relationships. Additionally, we’re looking for individuals eager to gain experience and validate their skills in areas such as administrative work, visual design, and 3D modeling. If you possess any of these traits and maintain a customer-centric work approach, we’d be delighted to connect with you.
