Monique, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose through my deepening passion for wine, which extends beyond simply enjoying it. Exploring the rich atmosphere and intricate processes of winemaking ignited a profound connection within me.
Navigating the challenges of establishing our own wine brand, The Pour Up, especially dealing with distribution issues alongside my dedicated business partner, highlighted the resilience and determination required in this industry. Witnessing similar struggles among colleagues underscored my desire to make a meaningful impact.
This led me to envision owning a wine bar—a space where small, independent brands could proudly showcase their wines and gain exposure. The satisfaction of providing a platform for these passionate creators to see their products on commercial shelves is immensely rewarding. It’s through these experiences that I’ve come to realize my purpose lies in supporting and uplifting others within the wine industry, helping them navigate their own journeys and celebrating their successes.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am deeply immersed in the world of wine, driven by a passion that has evolved into my profession. Together with my business partner, we founded our own wine brand, which has been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. What excites me most about this endeavor is the opportunity to share exceptional wines with enthusiasts and support talented, small-scale producers who pour their hearts into every bottle.
Our brand is not just about the wine itself but also about the stories behind each label—the dedication of the winemakers, the unique terroirs they come from, and the craftsmanship involved in every step of production. We strive to curate a selection that reflects diversity and quality, offering our customers a taste of authenticity and discovery.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled about our upcoming launch of a wine bar. This new venture will not only showcase our wines but also create a space for community and celebration. We aim to feature not only our own label but also other boutique wineries, providing a platform for emerging talents to shine.
In addition to expanding our presence locally, we are exploring opportunities to collaborate with like-minded businesses and participate in events that celebrate the artistry and joy of wine. Our commitment remains steadfast—to elevate the wine experience and foster a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into every bottle.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities and skills that have significantly shaped my journey are perseverance, determination, and the ability to visualize the end goal. My advice to others is to maintain focus and positivity. Every setback might feel like a major obstacle, but it’s crucial to remember that setbacks are valuable lessons. They provide insights into what strategies to adjust or avoid in the future. Staying resilient and learning from challenges are key to moving forward effectively.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I prioritize taking time for myself. Whether it’s unwinding with a movie and snacks or enjoying activities like spending time eating out with friends or family, these moments help me recharge and regain perspective. With the current demands of launching the wine bar, these moments of personal relaxation are particularly vital for maintaining balance amidst the challenges.
