We were lucky to catch up with Kamesha Chatman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kamesha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose through Christ. You see the mistake that most people make is trying to find their purpose on their own and ask God to help make it come true. We never think to stop and ask God the ultimate questions: “What are Your plans for me? God what is my purpose? How do You want me to serve Your people?” We walk through life making all of these plans, that never work, before we even speak to God about it. We keep trying over and over to make it work, we never give up, we keep pushing through challenges, and finally it gets to the point where you can’t go any further. Whenever this happens that’s God’s way of getting your attention so He can get you to ask the ultimate questions. He wants you to follow the plans that He has for you and fulfill your true purpose. Asking Him those questions was the best decision that I have ever made because it’s clear that Fitness, Leadership, Sports and Performing Arts are my purpose. I was created to be a Sports Performance Coach for Performing Artists & Female Athletes and be a leader in the Fitness Industry. Now I can’t help but anticipate the amazing things that God has planned for me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The most exciting thing about what I do is that it has never been done before. That’s what makes me BOLD and unique and honestly it fits me. Most people who know me know that I want to be a Sports Performance Coach but what they don’t know is that I want to have a Sports Performance Company that hires Coaches of all skill sets and backgrounds to deliver cutting edge Sports Performance Programs designed by me for levels. What makes my Sports Performance Company different from others are my athletes, Performing Artists & Female Athletes. I chose to focus on Performing Artists because what they do is so amazing and their art truly saves lives. In order for them to continue to inspire the way they do they must take care of their body so they can perform effortlessly without compromising their bodies. I choose to focus on Female Athletes because not enough Coaches know how to program for the adolescent girls, they focus on skill instead of mechanics and physicality. These young girls deserve to have all of the tools to help them become successful athletes and it’s the same for collegiate athletes and professional athletes as well. These women should be set up for success in their sport in everyway possible.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities or things that are the most impactful in my journey are my Faith, Confidence, and Persistence. My advice to those starting out early in their journey is very simple.
1. If you don’t have FAITH then you don’t have anything. It is the driving source of your success.
2. If you don’t have CONFIDENCE in what you do, as in if you don’t believe in yourself how can you expect others to believe in you. When you truly have confidence in yourself it shows. As a matter of fact it glows. So glow out and shout! Believe in yourself.
3. If you are not PERSISTENT and you give up every time things get rocky you will never be successful. Often what you go through is what makes you qualified for what it is that you do. You go through it so you can help others grow through it.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Whenever I feel overwhelmed the first that I do is pray. The next thing that I do is slow down, breathe, and remember my purpose. Once my purpose sets in again I put on my big girl pants and go to work. The only strategy is remembering that things will happen that are out of your control and life will get chaotic at time. As long as you stay prayed up, breathe and remember your purpose you can get through anything. PERIOD.
