Meet Vin Sharma

We recently connected with Vin Sharma and have shared our conversation below.

Vin, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Rediscovering photography as an adult allowed me to reconnect with my passion for visual storytelling. It became more than a hobby—it became a means of capturing the essence of life’s moments and expressing my unique multi-cultural perspective. From Canada to India, now based in New York City, this place has become home. It is now the cherished backdrop of the stories I share. Through this journey, I have found my purpose in sharing experiences through images, celebrating connections, and preserving memories that resonate deeply with others.

This purpose is an opportunity to pause, breathe, and observe life through a lens. Through time and experience, and the deep connections of our closest relationships, my purpose has gradually unfolded – and continues to change. Accepting that change is what drives the purpose. It’s an ongoing journey, evolving every day, shaped by the we all share.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Through my lens, I search for ways to explore connections. Though I am self taught, I am constantly learning – through daily observations, workshops and classes, as well as that most valued treasure, my fellow visual storytellers and friends.

The excitement of photography, for me, illuminates the everyday by transforming moments into timeless narratives. Recently, on a visit to India, I rediscovered my love for street photography and all its intricacies. Amidst the business of daily life, there were moments of intimate interaction amidst the vivid backdrop of life in India.

Weaving together these diverse stories resonates universally. It’s not just about photography as an art form, but as a medium that bridges cultures, generations, and communities. It is a source of inspiration to share my work and have others join this journey, where we can find connections that are sometimes hidden or overlooked.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Empathy, Observation and Storytelling – these are the three things that continue to be the most impactful in shaping my journey with photography.

I encourage fellow photographers to immerse themselves in different communities, listen actively to people’s stories, and approach each photo opportunity with an open mind. Being present with our surroundings, noticing details that others might overlook, and being able to anticipate moments that convey a larger story – these are skills that we never stop learning.

My words for others are the same for myself: to embrace curiosity, practice patience, and never underestimate the power of perseverance. Every photograph is an opportunity to learn and improve. Stay open to feedback, seek inspiration from diverse sources, and most importantly, stay true to your unique perspective and passion.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Collaboration is a constant source of inspiration and I am always open to working with individuals who share a passion for photography. I also enjoy working with writers, visual artists, and creatives who are enthusiastic about exploring themes of human connection and cultural diversity.
Connecting in our digital age is easy – I can be reached through social media and through my website. Reach out and send a message! Let’s tell our stories together.
