Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandi.jae Hooks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brandi.jae, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I feel like we all experience imposter syndrome at some point. It can happen with jobs, talents, even just being in certain spaces. I have definitely experienced this as a photographer, and what I always think to myself is: I belong here. I am talented. I am right where I am supposed to be.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Brandi.jae Photography provides visually appealing images of food, beverages, and products. My passion for cooking and photography, has given me the opportunity to start my own brand, delivering creative, high quality photos for my clients. Services provided include food and beverage photography, product and e-commerce photography, food styling, and more.
When you work with Brandi.jae Photography, you not only get a photographer, but also a knowledgeable professional to guide you during the process. I look forward to collaborating with you to elevate your business/brand visuals, website, and social media presence!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would definitely say basic knowledge of lighting, composition, and how to use your gear is critical to your development as a photographer. You have to be open to feedback, and not discouraged by negative comments. Also, being kind will get you further in any business.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking to collaborate! I am currently looking to do photo sessions with bakeries, dessert shops, or coffee shops, but of course I will work outside of these listed as well.
