Meet Jessica Ross

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica Ross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

My optimism is rooted in the thrilling unpredictability of life—the enchanting possibility that something extraordinary could unfold at any moment. I’ve come to understand that the journey involves embracing both the highs and lows, the victories and the setbacks. This balance is what makes the successes so much sweeter. I’ve learned that if I don’t genuinely believe in the magic of possibilities, I won’t muster the courage or the determination to pursue my dreams with the vigor they deserve. It’s about having faith in the process, trusting that if I put my best efforts into my endeavors, the universe will conspire to bring good things my way.

Every day is a fresh canvas, brimming with opportunities for greatness. This mindset propels me forward, even in the face of challenges. I find inspiration in the knowledge that perseverance and hard work are the keys to unlocking those dreams. It’s a beautiful dance of hope and effort, where optimism isn’t just a feeling but a driving force that fuels my passion and ambition. By believing in the possibility of something amazing happening, I stay motivated, energized, and ready to seize each day.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As an actress, publicist, reporter, and producer, my world is a dynamic blend of creativity and storytelling. Currently, I’m working on an exciting film project and launching a new podcast. One of my most exhilarating projects is “Chasing Stars,” a comedic-drama TV pilot featuring an all-female lead cast. This project is special because it not only showcases incredible talent but also highlights the power and versatility of women in the entertainment industry.

Additionally, I’m passionate about giving back, which is why I’m glad to be part of the Cinderella of New York competition, which aims to provide dresses, shoes, and accessories to those in need.

In May, I launched a fashion collection for Shine the Light On, with 50% of the proceeds supporting World Animal Protection. This cause is close to my heart, blending my love for fashion with a commitment to making a positive impact.

I’m also looking forward to hosting a live webinar on August 28th with The Vault and the Modern Day Wife, where I’ll share insights from my journey through the entertainment industry. This includes exploring the various facets of my career—from public relations and hosting to acting, reality TV, social media, and fashion. It’s going to be an exciting time, full of new ventures and opportunities to connect and inspire.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities stand out as particularly impactful: organization, resourcefulness, and perseverance. Being organized is crucial in managing a hectic schedule filled with many different tasks. I meticulously plan each day, ensuring my clothes, makeup, and hair products are neatly arranged, saving precious time when I need to get ready. This level of organization extends to all areas of my life, allowing me to balance multiple responsibilities with grace and efficiency.

Resourcefulness is another vital skill. In an industry where last-minute changes are the norm, the ability to adapt and find solutions quickly is invaluable. Whether researching a role, writing an article, or preparing a press release, accuracy and thoroughness are key. Attending events, filming, or traveling to new places often requires swift problem-solving and a knack for making the most of available resources. This adaptability has served me well, enabling me to navigate the unpredictable nature of the entertainment world.

Perseverance is perhaps the most essential quality. Success in this industry doesn’t come overnight, it’s more akin to nurturing a garden; it takes time, consistent effort, and dedication to eventually see the results of your work. Some achieve their dreams quickly, while others face a longer, more arduous journey.

Throughout my career, I’ve encountered numerous challenges, from the pandemic to personal losses. Each obstacle tested my resolve, but it also strengthened my determination. My advice to those starting their journey is to stay the course, even when the path seems daunting. Organize your life meticulously, research thoroughly, and, most importantly, never give up. Persistence and dedication are the keys to turning dreams into reality.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past year, I feel that my most significant area of growth has been in video editing. Before the pandemic, I had little experience with Zoom, self-taping meetings, or auditions. However, as the world has shifted towards virtual interactions, creating high-quality content has become more crucial than ever. To adapt, I immersed myself in learning—watching countless YouTube tutorials, taking online courses, and experimenting with various apps like CapCut, iMovie, and Splice.

Video editing has been both challenging and rewarding for me. Mastering these skills has not only expanded my creative capabilities but also empowered me to take control of my projects from start to finish. It’s fascinating to see how editing can transform footage into a compelling narrative, enhancing the storytelling process. This newfound proficiency has opened up a world of possibilities, allowing me to produce more polished content that truly reflects my vision.
