Meet Sarah Jennings

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Jennings. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Sarah , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Well first I had to really figure out where did it come from. Like why was I so nervous to start on something I was truly passionate about. And I realized it all boiled down to wanting everything to be perfect, plus I didn’t have the materials to start so I had no idea how I was going to make it happen. when in reality it didn’t have to be perfect, and all I needed was to use what I had by doing little by little everyday. while trusting God with the process.

Throughout my journey then and even now I’m reminded of Philippians 4:6-8. In this process of building my brand or pursuing anything I’m called to It’s always important to equip my mind in the word of God. Imposter syndrome was something that ignited my brand. The whole idea behind “InceptualSara” was to just start. And if I can be honest imposter syndrome would come in big moments for me, in which Ive had to push a little harder, but none the less I show up and I work really hard on my craft.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a fashion designer and a women empowerment activist. My fashion line is called Inceptualsara it’s a brand that empowers women to begin taking steps towards their dreams fearlessly. I try my best to display and live that in all that I do. I also host a podcast called signed by lipstick where I share my journey and how I’ve had to remain relentless in my pursuit to accomplishing my goals. It’s for the visionary woman who wants to be and do more but struggles with imposter syndrome. my hope is to inspire the next woman to just start and be fearless in their pursuit. I’ve had to be bold with my choice making, allowing my confidence to flourish. I believe that there are women that are attached to my obedience, in just stepping forward in the direction that God has for me and surrendering to His will every step of the way. So as a Fashion Designer, it’s my job to tell a story through my art, and as a woman empowerment activist it’s my job to remind women they can do anything and that every woman is worthy and so deserving of living a life they dream about with confidence.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

First I would say character because your character is based on who you are and how you move. It speaks to the bases of even how you think. Our InceptualSara brand is about making statements in how we dress but in also in how we carry ourselves. For me personally I carry myself with class and confidence. I’m confident in Who I am. I want the woman who wear my clothing to feel that way as well.

Second I would say a sense of timing, allowing God to lead. I’m very conscious in the decisions that I make so I take my time when making them. with any of my collections there is a sense of message but with the message it comes in it’s own timing. Like I think about some of the collections I’ve made in the past that speaks to women ive met and even myself in such a profound way, because I allowed the timing of the collection to come within its own. With timing comes, experience, and reflection.

And Third i would say having an outward mindset. I’m more about adding value to the women who wear my clothing or I encounter in conversation whether backstage or on the runway. I will often share my concepts with the models so they are aware of what they are wearing and why but also leaving an impact. In most experiences I get a messages in how they are inspired, are seen, taken out of their comfort zones, and felt confident after working with me. I think it’s a beautiful thing and I’m very grateful however I know it’s just a gift to speak into the inception of who they are becoming at the “timing” of the collection. Which reminds me I’m on the right path and God is still leading me and this brand.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

To be honest my challenge is resisting to comfort. when you get to a place of comfort you want to stay there because obviously it’s comfortable. Stepping out on your fear is uncomfortable. It’s scary, but it worth it. It’s so easy to stay in your comfort zone but in that zone you can easily become stagnant. There is a difference in being still versus being stagnant. Being still is you pausing to really hear from God versus being stagnant is just knowing that you need to move but you’re not moving because you’re allowing fear of change to prevent you from moving. Just like anyone else I have really big moments in life good and bad and even in those moments it’s really easy to remain in my comfort zone, to not show up for myself, to remain in my little bubble because it’s safe and familiar but learning to transition the mind to MOVE even when it’s scary. Having faith that everything is going to be okay. But not letting fear prevent you from receiving your blessing by just being obedient to the nudge. Once again I’m always reminded of my brand “InceptualSara” which means “Begin Sara” encouraging not just me but every woman to begin, and start by getting out of your comfort zone everyday.
