Meet ARCHIE TYAGI

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ARCHIE TYAGI a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

ARCHIE, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I believe creativity cannot be forced; it’s a feeling, an imagination, and a curiosity that ignites when the moment is right. Before I pursued my career as an architect and spatial designer, I was far more passionate and motivated to design. Although I remain thrilled and passionate about my field, the professional demands can sometimes hinder the natural flow of creativity, making the process tiring and challenging.

To overcome these creative blocks, I give myself time and space to think until I feel the creative urge again. Additionally, I often shift my focus and explore different genres of design and creativity to find new motivation and inspiration.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a professional Spatial Designer with a background in Architecture and Interior Design. My career has allowed me to work on a diverse range of projects, from large-scale ventures like airports to small-scale production designs for advertising.

Currently, I am an interior designer at HBA (Hirsch Bedner Associates), the leading hospitality design firm in the United States. In my nearly two years with the firm, I have contributed to several high-end resort, hotel, and multifamily projects, collaborating with prestigious brands such as Marriott, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, Hilton, Embassy Suites, and Millcreek.

In addition to my role at HBA, I work as a production and spatial designer with event organizers and producers. I develop concept decks, art direction, narratives, and immersive design solutions. This process involves everything from building a story and developing design concepts, sketches, and visual boards, to on-site production design work and execution management.

To stay motivated and passionate about my long-term goals, I regularly collaborate with industry professionals. I am passionate about creating experiences and always consider the journey and experience of the user navigating the spaces I design. The most exciting aspect of the design world is witnessing dreams and imaginations come to life and fulfilling the desires of clients.

As an experiential artist for thematic events, I thrive as a creative director. I embrace projects of all scales and concepts, constantly craving new challenges. Design is my passion, and I am dedicated to it 24/7.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three aspects that have helped me maintain my drive are:

– Communication
– Commitment
– Courage

I haven’t perfected all three yet, but I’m certainly on my way.

To those just beginning their journey in design, it’s important to understand that it is a highly competitive market. Working as a designer requires constant commitment, which can be overwhelming at times. As I mentioned with my 3Cs of work drive, passion is the key. Having the drive and desire to accomplish something, building the courage to take risks and challenge yourself, and maintaining the energy to communicate your thoughts and processes are all crucial. These aspects will lead you slowly and steadily to where you want to be. Patience is also essential; I am still working on it even after being in the field for over 10 years.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am always up for collaborations, as they provide a constant process of learning and delivering. I have gained the best exposure to my knowledge and skills through the most random opportunities.

While my passion lies in architecture and interior design, I also hold immense love for the music and fashion industries. I am particularly fascinated by music videos, stage performance setups, fashion runways, and conceptual art directions. I am an award-winning designer recognized for my research on music and its psychological impacts. This project focused on prisoners suffering from psychological trauma and explored how immersive musical environments can contribute to their long-term well-being. Although my research targeted a specific audience, I believe it can contribute to developing impactful designs that could be therapeutic for everyday individuals.

I am easy to connect with on LinkedIn, via email, or on social media platforms.
