Meet Jasemine Knowles

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasemine Knowles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasemine below.

Hi Jasemine, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

My journey to finding my purpose wasn’t a straight line. It began with a few personal struggles. As someone with Ichthyosis, a dry skin condition, I felt self-conscious and frustrated by lotions that either smelled good but didn’t moisturize, or vice versa. This experience sparked a desire to create a product that addressed both hydration and smelling good.

Driven by this need, I leveraged my background in writing and communications to delve into research and create effective skincare solutions. My goal was to create products with clean, vegan ingredients that nourished and hydrated your skin without you having to sacrifice smelling good within the process.

But The Hydrated Hottie has now become more than just a solution for dry skin. It became a platform for self-love, body positivity, and empowerment. Building on affirmations and self-care practices I learned from therapists over the years throughout my challenge with anxiety and insecurities, I incorporated uplifting messages on my product labels to pour into my customers. I realized that everyone struggles with their insecurities from time to time, and my brand creates a space to remind women just how beautiful they are the way they are.

The Hydrated Hottie isn’t just a business; it’s a way to cultivate a space of self-acceptance and celebrate the beauty in all bodies. It’s about offering not just products, but a message of self-love and the importance of taking care of ourselves.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Well.. hey, everyone! I’m Jasemine, the founder and CEO of The Hydrated Hottie. We’re a body care company with a mission to help you upgrade your “Body Care Drip” with body care goodies that leave you smelling good and with skin that’s soft and silky – that’s hot girl ish, for sure!

What makes me most excited is that The Hydrated Hottie goes above and beyond to meet your body care needs. We all know the struggle – finding a moisturizer that smells amazing but leaves your skin feeling dry, or one that hydrates but has no scent to speak of. Well, that’s where we come in! We’ve created a line of body butters, oils, scrubs, and lip oils packed with skin-loving ingredients that nourish and hydrate, all while leaving you smelling delicious..

But it’s not just about the products! We’re all about empowering women through self-care. That’s why you’ll find little unique affirmations on our labels – a gentle reminder to love the skin you’re in! Honestly, this is what I love the most because it’s such an exciting thing for me to see how The Hydrated Hottie has become more than just a skincare line. It’s a community of women who are embracing self-care and feeling confident in their own skin. I have even started doing workshops where you can learn to make your own personalized body oil – it’s a blast!

Aside from the Hydrated Hottie, I also write romance and women’s fiction. I currently have eight books available on Amazon under my pen-name Nailah/Nailah Knowles. I enjoy reading, writing, and telling stories that empower and inspire women. Which, speaking over… leads me to my newfound mission. Self-care shouldn’t be a luxury. That’s why I’m currently working on launching a program within the coming year to provide showers, clean water, and feminine/body care products to homeless women in Houston. It’s a cause close to my heart, and I’m so excited to give back to the community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities that were impactful in my journey are:

1. Turning a personal need into a solution: My own struggles with dry skin sparked the initial idea. It wasn’t just about creating a product, it was about filling a gap I knew existed for many women. This personal connection fueled my determination and helped me understand my target audience on a deeper level.
My advice? Don’t be afraid to tap into your own experiences! The things you struggle with might be common issues others face too. Look for

2. Leveraging existing skills! I already had a background in communications as I am an author and former journalist, which helped me research ingredients, develop messaging, and build a brand identity. Don’t underestimate the value of your current skillset! See how you can apply it to your passion project.

3. Find your tribe! Connect with others who share your passion or are on a similar journey. What I’ve learned is that you can’t do things alone all the time. As someone who is a master DIY’er and likes to work independently, we need people and we help. If not, you’ll stretch yourself out too thin and burn out quickly. Collaboration and support are essential tools for your growth!

Remember, finding your purpose is a journey, not a destination. Don’t be afraid to experiment and make mistakes. Seek out feedback and use it to improve. There are tons of resources online and in libraries to develop new skills and grow your knowledge.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes! I actually am! Many homeless women lack access to showers and hygiene products, which can be especially difficult during menstruation or other times of bodily change. Every woman deserves comfort and dignity, and I’m committed to making that a reality through my upcoming program (sharing the name soon on my socials). However, I can’t do this alone – I’m actively seeking collaborators — everything from other business owners who own or have knowledge in starting a non-profit, grant writers, sponsors, healthcare professionals, or just a Good Samaritan who wants to volunteer to help this program reach its full potential! I am looking to start small first in providing fem care bags to women and then also finding local showers to host homeless women to come in and shower and get clean clothes.

I’m based in Houston, but any help will be appreciated. Please reach out to me via email at [email protected] OR DM me on Instagram @thehydratedhottie . Thanks so much in advance!
