We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Emma Mitchell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Emma, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
For most of my 20’s and early 30’s, I had a hard time with my self-esteem, and things easily knocked me down. I realized to be truly joyful in life, it is important to love yourself. Which is why I got intentional about building up my confidence, and still work on it almost daily.
It’s been a long journey to get where I am today, and I still run into challenges, but my confidence is much higher than it was. I use many tools to boost my self-esteem, like:
• A daily meditation to feel grounded and calm throughout my day
• Reiki healing and energy practices to feel more clear-headed and confident
• Creative methods such as Art Journaling or writing to get to the source of an obstacle/emotional trigger
• Dancing to an upbeat song before a situation gives me more strength
• Saying positive mantras to reassure myself everything will be okay
• Remembering back to difficult challenges and how I got through them also gives me confidence in a fearful moment
I have also learned that practice does bring confidence, so by just doing something a few times, I feel like I can do it again. For example, I used to have a huge fear of public speaking. But after I joined a Toastmasters group and gave speeches a few times in there, I was more self-assured when I volunteered to give presentations in front of other groups.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Do you want better friends and deeper connections in your life? Do you ever think about what it would feel like to have more fun, be content, and just be okay being you?
I used to think about these things all the time. I was unhappy with the person I was showing the world, not letting people truly get to know the real me, and worst of all, life felt lonely and pretty joyless.
Most of my career has been spent as an events and marketing professional for small businesses and nonprofits. Following my dreams, I started two businesses in 2021, doing freelance work and hosting my own events. I thought by breaking out on my own, I would be happier. Instead, my wellbeing suffered and I somehow was more miserable. Deep down, I had a lot of healing to do. Fed up, I decided I needed to change my life and go on a Journey of Joy.
This was when I started shedding the unauthentic layers to reveal my true self and what I really wanted out of life. I began finding joy in the simple things, and acting like a kid again, plus creative and movement activities. I got really intentional about having fun and adventure. Most importantly, I utilized my own Reiki Master training, meditation, and other energy healing practices to discover – and love – my real self. Through this growth, I’ve found my voice, more confidence, better boundaries, and stronger relationships. Best of all, I’ve had many experiences that bring me ear-to-ear grinning happiness.
After going through this journey, I realized that other women were having the same struggles. They need better friendships, more joy in life, and to just feel good about who they truly are. This is why I started up Rosa Joy Co., and am on a mission to help women find more joy in their own life.
As your Joy Guide, I’ll walk you through those same methods to lead you towards a more fun and fulfilling life – with better friends, feeling more content with yourself, and excited to be alive. Currently, you can choose from two programs, Journey Back to Joy or Find Your Tribe.
I am also a certified Reiki Master and aid my clients in finding more clarity and peace through 45-minute sessions.
Lastly, if you are interested in meeting new friends local to the area, you can also check out the variety of community events that I host. Some of those gatherings include 2 Ladies Hikes a month in Eagle County.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Curiosity: I love to learn about people and hear their stories, which is why I’m always asking questions and intently listening to the answers. This natural curiosity has helped me build strong relationships with people in both my personal and work life.
Put it into practice for yourself: Make a list of questions to ask new people and your friends. Brush up on your active listening skills. Be curious about who they are and what makes them tick. Be intentional to maintain contact with them and remember details about their lives to follow-up on during conversations.
2. Asking for help: Although I can be a “jack of all trades” in many ways, I’m not scared to ask for help when I need it. This has served me well, whether it’s a referral for a new connection, help with a project that’s stumping me, or even hiring someone to do my accounting. Utilizing my network, I can typically pinpoint one or two people who can answer my questions.
Put it into practice for yourself: Know that it’s not weak to ask for help; it actually makes you more efficient. Rather than you spending an hour on something, somebody else could answer it for you in a couple minutes. Plus, this sparks conversation and builds a stronger bond between you and the other person.
3. Knowing myself: I’ve worked hard to know myself and trust my instincts on business/career matters, friendships, my life path, and the day-to-day. This is very important, because I used to be pulled in too many directions, swayed by every new thing, hang out with the wrong people, and be easily persuaded by bad advice. Living that way did not serve me well. Now I surround myself with people who lift me up, only take opportunities that are right for me, and have a strong inner compass guiding me with my business decisions. I feel stronger in who I am and what’s best for me moving forward.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Funny as it is, I’ve been working hard to improve my vulnerability and let people know me better publicly. I used to be scared to show any weakness, but I’ve been working to let go of that fear and show people the real me. Especially in my newsletter and my social media videos. I want people to resonate with the tough things that come up in my life, so that they can feel that they’re not alone if they are going through it, too. Plus, I always offer learning lessons and tools to get past that particular challenge. I share things like my situational anxiety, heartbreaks in friendships, and even my failures. It’s been freeing for me, but I’ve also heard from readers that they really enjoy the messages that I share. As scary as it can be, it’s been an overall positive experience to just be me.
