Meet James Barry

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful James Barry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with James below.

Hi James, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic is influenced from my father. For most of my upbringing, my father owned his own business: a grocery store. Early to rise and late to bed. He modeled working hard, being responsible for one’s actions and most of all, putting care and attention to the business. He always made sure the outside of the store was clean and manicured. While I learned to work hard, I do think with modern times and tech, we can learn to work smart. To co-create systems that require less of our efforts and time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a professional chef of 20 years. I’m on a mission to support people in eating whole animal easily and deliciously. I created a superfood seasoning that blends freeze-dried powdered beef organ meats with organic spices and herbs. It turns everything into a delicious, ancestral superfood. Pluck superfood seasonings can be found on Amazon and at our website, eatpluck.com. If you can salt it, you can Pluck it!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My love of cooking, health and the my experience as a professional chef contributed to my willingness to start Pluck.

The advice I would offer is to build the business in a way that supports your desired life outcome. For example, if health is important to you, then time for exercise and eating home cooked meals should be built into your daily schedule. We assume business structure needs to look a certain way, but as long as you communicate clear expectations for your customers, they will go along with whatever you set.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal customer is someone that cares about their health. That believes their food choices directly impact their well-being and are willing to invest their money now in their everyday choices, rather than wait to pay it out in hospital bills.
