We were lucky to catch up with Mi’Lisa Idora recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mi’Lisa, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Developing my confidence and self-esteem has been a continuous journey over the years. I believe it is something you master in cycles. I’ve learned that it is not something you simply do once. As humans we are constantly evolving and growing.
My confidence and self-esteem are continuously developed as I learn to listen to my intuition and trust my inner voice above all else. Learning to honor myself, despite conflicting external noise, has proven to boost my confidence most. Taking the time to truly get to know myself has been a journey.
I will never forget the moment in my mid-twenties when I had checked all of the boxes of what I “supposed do” and still felt empty inside. I had graduated from high school, undergrad, and graduate school all with honors. I had worked for Fortune 500 Companies, Top Educational Institutions, and Local Government Entities. I had accomplished so much but I couldn’t tell you who I really was. That was the moment that truly set me on my journey inward.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hey friends! My name is Mi’Lisa Idora. I am the founder of Soulcial Therapy. I provide intuitive business coaching for women entrepreneurs and would be entrepreneurs. I believe in a holistic approach to business that integrates business growth, inner well being, and real-life priorities be it work, motherhood, marriage, etc.
As I reach my 5 year mark as a full-time entrepreneur turned mompreneur I know the importance of incorporating self-care into my regular routines and business strategies. Empowering women to step away from hustle culture and step into flow while still maintaining financial freedom excites me.
Building unity and community among women, especially Black women is my love language. Through monthly events hosted by Soulcial Therapy I am able to do just that. Facilitating genuine connections and sisterhood among women for the purpose of business collaborations is a unique gift of mine. I recently started a new business with two phenomenal women called The Soulcare Experience. The Soulcare Experience provides intentional self-care to nourish and reset the emotional and physical well-being of moms. Finding harmony within business and everyday life is not just something I teach, but something I live out daily.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back over my journey failing forward, trusting my intuition, and asking for help have positively impacted my growth most. Releasing the fear of failure and just going for it always propelled me further than waiting until I felt 100% comfortable to go after a new business venture or implement a new strategy. Learning as you go teaches valuable lessons that can be refined with each step. Things will not always work out perfectly, sometimes they may not work out at all. But when things do work out it has always been worth the risk.
Along with failing forward, trusting my intuition and doing things my way even if it goes against the grain has been a game changer. My business journey has coincided with my personal spiritual journey. Instead of keeping those two parts of my life separated I integrated them. That is where incorporating self-care services like Reiki and Sound Therapy supports the mindset changes my clients experience though our intuitive business coaching sessions.
Asking for help was not always modeled for me growing up. My dad traveled for work and my mom always figured out a way to get the job done, no matter what the job was, when it came to raising me and my brother. I feel like a lot of Black women can relate to this and often rely on our own wills. Learning to ask for help and/or finding aligned partnerships allowed me to grow exceptionally faster personally and professionally than when I was trying to do it all by myself.
For entrepreneurs early on their journey I would advise taking risks early, trusting your gut, and asking for help. These skills are like muscles they must be developed over time. The quicker you start the quicker you will begin to see results.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal clients often fit into two categories. The first category includes women who are financially stable and ready to turn their business idea into an actual business. They are ambitious, self motivated, and ready to put in the work they know their dreams will require. They just aren’t sure where to start and are looking for assistance to lay a solid business foundation that fits into their current lifestyle.
The second category is for women who already own a business but want to do business differently. They may be in the process of reviving their business or on the brink of business burnout. These women may be balancing corporate careers, motherhood, home life, and a slew of other things. They desire to grow their business while learning to prioritize their own wellbeing in the midst of maintaining everyday responsibilities.
If a woman reading this falls into either of these categories I would love to work with you as your intuitive business coach and self-care champion. You don’t have to figure it out alone. Together we will craft a tailored plan that holistically fits into your life. Soulcial Therapy connects you with a community of women committed to growing their business and themselves.
