We were lucky to catch up with Arieale Munson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Arieale , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Being the only one in the room who looks different from everyone else can be challenging, but it can also be an opportunity for growth and impact. Here are some of my strategies to be effective and successful in any situations.
I take pride in embracing my own unique perspective which helped me be more confident. I don’t shy away from speaking up or visibility. My voice matters! Set boundaries but also pride on authenticity.
You are never too old to learn anything so be teachable and grow with a strong network.
The biggest strategy is keeping God first in EVERYTHING you do in life!
By leveraging these strategies, you can turn the challenge of being the only one in the room into an opportunity for success and influence.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Embrace a growth mindset. Read broadly, take online courses, and seek feedback regularly. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Learning isn’t confined to formal education; it can happen through everyday experiences and interactions.
Practice writing regularly, whether through blogging, journaling, or contributing to forums. Engage in conversations where you listen more than you speak.
Practice breaking down problems into smaller parts and analyzing them methodically. Seek diverse perspectives to enhance your problem-solving Skills.
Be open to change. Everyone who starts with you, won’t finish with you!
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
The biggest area of growth is understanding that I’m unique. Everyone won’t receive my authenticity. You will lose yourself looking for YOU in people. Receive people for who they are, and live your life abundantly.
It’s ok to lose people along the journey. Be intentional about pouring energy back into yourself. Time waits for nothing so cherish the gift of life. Your dreams is just that, YOURS!
