We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Pierquet a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I overcame imposter syndrome when I started working on myself. I stopped being a victim and realized that I co-create my life. When I stopped blaming others, took responsibility for my life, and started self-love, my imposter syndrome melted away naturally.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a unicorn of sorts. It’s rare to find a person who is a graphic designer, website designer, and search engine optimization specialist all rolled into one. You don’t have to worry about communicating with three different people to try to get your website and branding done. I stay up on all things tech and Google so you don’t have to worry about it. My new offering is soon to be launched, a free website redesign checklist download.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
#1 I started my career as a magazine designer. As we all know, print took a massive hit in 2010. I lost all my work. I took that year to learn how to do website design. During the process, I realized that designing a magazine page or spread is the same mindset as developing a web page. You need to consider what you want the eye to see first on the page and how you would like it to flow down the page. So needless to say, laying out a page comes pretty naturally for me. I advise clients on what would be best on what page. I work with my clients as if we are partners, it’s a collaboration.
#2 My self-healing journey – When I started healing internal traumas, I knew it would change my personal life but I never knew how much it would change my business. I show up completely different: not afraid to be myself, no longer afraid to do things outside of my comfort zone, and showing up more secure and confident has helped me grow my business to a size I never thought possible.
#3 – Don’t do it all yourself – Taking the little things or the things you hate doing off your to-do list. Tasking them to someone else may seem daunting and scary at first, but in the long run it truly pay off as you have more time to run and grow your business.
How to improve
I have found that surrounding yourself with people that you inspire to be like is a great start. Network and learn with people that have already succeeded and are further ahead in business then you. They can teach you as you grow.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who is embarrassed by their website. They will do anything but send a potential client to their website because they are so ashamed of it. More often than not that ideal client is in the first ten years of their business. Their website is most often one they created themselves when they started the business. Now they have grown and that website is no longer serving them, isn’t their brand or even the services they are offering anymore.
I guide these business owners through the process of taking their website to the next level of their business through:
– creating a new branding message that will attract the ideal clientele
– redesign the website to match where the company is heading not where it has been
– offer advise on what is best for the business’ growth
