Katie, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I was raised to always be respectful and kind, and I truly believe in the saying “treat others how you want to be treated”. I have always appreciated when others go out of their way to make my day better, so I continually strive to do the same for everyone I meet. I don’t see customers as transactions, but instead as individual interactions in which I can get to know and connect with so many new friends! As a small business owner, generosity allows me to build trust and create a sense of community within the South Bay.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I like to think of it as a modern day friendship bracelet and it is such a fun experience to custom create your own layered jewelry.
I started Wild Ember in August of 2022 as a fun and innovative outlet for me outside of my full time job as an ultrasound tech. I have always loved dainty, everyday jewelry and Wild Ember allows me to tap into my creative side. I decided to take a chance on myself, and after so much learning and experimenting, I am SO glad I did!
I am constantly adding new jewelry pieces to my business, including rings, clasped necklaces and most recently my charm necklace bar! I offer a variety of cute charms for you to customize your own charm necklace so it is uniquely yours. I am always looking into the latest jewelry trends and listening to customer feedback so I can always offer the most popular and stylish pieces.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my small business journey, I believe that my most impactful qualities are adaptability, drive and building meaningful relationships.
First, I happily embraced the endeavor of starting a small business solo (while also working a full time job) and all of the challenges it entailed! I had to constantly adapt as I learned a new, hands on jewelry technique, navigated through pop ups and vendor markets and researched materials, budgeting and social media. I try to approach problem solving in a creative way and am always happy to share what I learn along the way.
Second, the drive to always stay positive and hopeful has been so important, especially in the beginning! Instead of letting the frustration of failures hold me back, I stay organized and set goals which keep me focused. Setbacks are inevitable in any business but I believe that how you learn and adapt from them that is the most important.
Lastly, Wild Ember has allowed me to form some of the most special and meaningful relationships! From meeting new customers who become friends to collaborating with other small business owners, networking is one of favorite aspects of small business. I am also not afraid to ask for help and I am so grateful for others who have helped me along the way. You never know what new opportunities, collaborations or connections you might make so my advice is to always be kind, respectful and genuine with others!
