Meet Jenny Crawford

We recently connected with Jenny Crawford and have shared our conversation below.

Jenny, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I truly believe in the law of abundance. In short, everything each of us wants and needs is already available to us. Giving to others does not minimize our potential or reduce the amount of resources we can attain. Releasing the need to control spending on helping others teaches us to be confident in our ability to acquire more resources and attain the things we want to achieve. Being generous helps the giver stay open to possibilities and not get fixated on outcomes through the singular lens of financial metrics.

I have noticed that what you give- be it time, resources or financial support always comes back to the giver two-fold. Learning this by observing how seemingly disparate connections unfold in unexpected ways to benefit you when needed is part of the trust in the practice that encourages future giving. Giving to others intentionally is a way of showing that the relationship is important. As we all know, relationships and networking are extremely important in business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Creating compelling outdoor spaces and gardens is my career focus and passion. My profession as a landscape designer has evolved and I take a holistic approach to designing spaces. I envision how homeowners will live and entertain in their new space and provide functionality in outdoor settings ensuring clients will get the most use out of their outdoor spaces. Creating incredible exteriors imparts positive feelings associated with home and lifestyle. Feeling confident in your home space is essential for personal well-being and gatherings with others. Inviting friends and family to celebrate life’s achievements and special moments in your home is a blessing. The energy and love put into an exterior remodel project can be felt by guests and visitors who will appreciate the intentionality you have placed in your surroundings and love the beauty of the space.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience, optimism and boundary-setting have been the three skills that have been the most impactful in my journey as an entrepreneur. I believe you have to be optimistic about the future of your business once you have identified a service or product that will bring value to others. Remaining optimistic despite what others may think will keep you from giving up before you have started on your journey. Resilience is what keeps you motivated on the tough days when challenges inevitably arise. Resilience is accepting the opportunity to learn from mistakes and not allowing them define you. It helps to remember that you have the skill sets or can learn what you need to succeed and see your vision to fruition. Boundary-setting is a new skill set I have recently been employing to help protect my personal time and well-being as a business owner. Boundary setting is about communicating directly to others about your wants and needs. As a business owner, you will need to set boundaries with employees, clients and your work schedule. Putting this skill set to use has enabled me to be more productive, less resentful and opened up time on my schedule for self-care, professional development and hobbies unrelated to work so that I can be the best designer possible.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate on a landscape renovation project in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Having grown up in Puerto Rico and being fluent in Spanish, I have always dreamed of returning and completing a tropical landscape close to my parents’ current home. If anyone has a home in the area or would like to partner on a project- please reach out!
