Meet Louka Sakkas

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Louka Sakkas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Louka below.

Louka, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
What’s important to me in situations like these is that I feel comfortable in my own skin – comfortable with my appearance, a conscious effort devoted to my personal palette. are there moments where someone may think “he’s trying way too hard”? I HOPE SO!
It’s really part of who I am & the artist I am discovering within myself, at 24 you better hope that you have a solid self-perception for the kind of artist you want people to perceive of you.

Spending the time to build on my character, and throw myself into many situations with lesser expectations has allowed me to flourish in a scene that otherwise can be cold and difficult to connect with.

Perhaps this depends more on how much of an inward exploration of the self you’ve committed time to.

To be successful in your environment depends on many things, and so long as you uphold yourself to a standard dictated to yourself you really can’t fail!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My focus is on inspiring people through my ingenuity to design and style with a unique lense, you take a look at some of the imagery and tell me it doesn’t inspire you. A bold statement is prevalent in my work, with a focus on complimentary graphic design work that also contrasts with the world of clothing & accessories showing a refined aesthetic that stands for itself – we get used to the colours that are consistently in our environment, so I enjoy taking advantage of that aspect of design psychology. Playing out the bold motif of the brand to inspire a new fashion sense, and insight into my world which is full of bright color and of constant inspired thought, I put it all on the line, every day, a new day to create something that didn’t exist before is truly my addiction and refining this process is all the more rewarding, a lifelong endeavour.

That’s what’s most exciting about the creative process of fashion, expanding your repertoire, inspiring you to adopt a new outlook and then inspiring others, This is what drove me to adopt the saying “Skazoodle wear for the future”.

As I prepare to debut the brand on an international scale, I recommend you take a look at the website, it’s a truly unique experience – one of a kind. there’s not much else out today taking the same design risks, albeit a reflection of my lack of contemporary education but an exemplary show of what persistence and refinement in the likes of “industry standards” and “design rules” can bring to the table if you choose to bend the fundamentals just slightly.
I fashion Skazoodle for the people for fashion is the future.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Resourcefulness 2. Planning & preparedness
3. Execution

2 & 3 are almost hand in hand of utmost importance and can only be done so with the whole aspects of “resourcefulness” taken into account which are so broad and expand beyond just the number in your bank statement. Priority should always be to execute your dreams and aspirations so you need to know how to work in a way that takes advantage of the resources you have available.
You must control your narrative, and you have to respect your time, there’s always an opportunity – not always time to act on it. In the beginning, focus on yourself, and be respectfully selfish. If you respect your skill, time and work ethic you’ll do the same with others.

Being aware of my time, and more thorough with my concepts has now led me to a frame of mind regarding design to be a process that should be inclusive of your audience, you want to foster a connection to the meaning and this shines through you in the beginning, well before a brand has developed its image in culture YOU and any fans are the links to the name and its interaction with the world.

Inspire yourself and then those around you will be inspired to keep working towards your goal, it’s natural if it changes, so don’t fear it – the future is change and that’s just a part of progress.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
As I take a step into the international arts scene I look to make connections with others who are also producing art at the same level, even greater. Collaboration is key to unlocking those higher concepts so I always look to collaborate with artists, clients and anyone interested in art. It’s the inspiration that drives insight so I’m most inspired to work with others with dreams and goals, push for excellence and execution of creative concepts, and experience what a wealth of opportunity can bring if you believe in those dreams & goals.
