Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sharon Brunhofer . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sharon , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome….do you mean like when your nominated for an interview with Bold Journey and you spend a couple weeks contemplating what do I have to share that would make a difference?…
Then this morning as I was going about taking care of my horse and donkey …. God sent me this message … “Sometimes you just don’t know how you just being yourself or doing YOUR ordinary things … blesses others”… He was showing me in all my chores how I was leaving trails of blessings. After I brushed Rambo ,my donkey and then as I went onto the next thing I turned to see these darling birds rejoicing that they had fur lining for their nest ..popping up and down and then flying off and coming to collect more fur…. After I cleaned out the water I saw bunnies that were being blessed with something to drink … because I decided to give my horse Ginger clean water…..I also think 2 friends tried to give me this same message when I talked to them about it this week but I wasn’t “hearing” it so Jesus felt the need to make it plain.
Thank you Jesus and I take from that remember… just you being YOU … blesses others in ways sometimes we will never even know. I think remembering there will always be someone who has more success, more knowledge, more of whatever we think we don’t have…or would like to aspire to but there will also be things you have walked thru that makes you YOU that others haven’t and when we just lean into being 100% ourselves and doing OUR best, we are doing God’s work and that qualifies us for so much more than we give ourselves credit for. I also think being a life long learner is a good antidote for imposter syndrome.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Sharon Brunhofer. I have been a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant just over 28 years. When I joined it didn’t occur to me I would be a business owner in my early 20’s..I really just wanted to be around the positive women in Mary Kay and have great skin. Over the years it has become so much more for me. Friends and family that became customers, customers that are now great friends and family. I live in Apache Junction, Arizona with my donkey Rambo, my horse Ginger, my dog Cisco and my supportive husband of 24 years Dave. I grew up north of Boston.
I am blessed to be an independent business owner within a company who believes faith first, family second, and career third is the way life should be. And that we should run our business by the golden rule. I am blessed to enjoy helping women look and feel their best. I am also blessed that I get encourage others who want to do the same.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities I’d say that have been most impactful in my journey is I am a life long learner and I”ve always cared greatly about others …which helps me serve my customers well. I’d say the third is faith…faith in the products I work with ..the company that’s behind them ..and an ever growing faith in my God and myself. This year the magical component to growth in my personal life and my business has been strengthening my faith and realizing being strong doesn’t mean you do it alone. It is the very opposite, I lean into what I hear from God, he is my CEO. I also lean more on my community of other Mary Kay business owners in working together to touch others lives. I have been blessed with so many others who believe in me and encourage me, I think it’s important to be that for others with what you’ve learned. I think that’s what makes God smile.
My advice to others early on in their journey is to listen to your heart, pray about what you need to do, and take a step every day in the direction of your dreams.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
This year in a book club I read She Works His Way by Michelle Meyers and Somer Phoebus. When I got to page 111 it was like the words I was reading were jumping off the page to me. It said “The success formula for a God-sized task is God’s power + human willingness, not God’s power + human strength or skill”….I felt a relief ..knowing I believe in God and I am willing. I feel like it took a lot of pressure away, that I was putting on myself.
It also said something that made me rethink what I was thinking about my work. You see I’ve always wanted to do something that made a difference…but Mary Kay was so fun for me and I didn’t see what I do as important until I read this:
“Don’t miss the opportunity to be that belief for someone else. It’s a big deal, and it’s bigger than merely helping one person. Don’t miss being a part of the kingdom of God in this way.”
I think until I read that I always thought there is much more important work to be done ..but that made me think about my work in a new way. I get to believe in others and share joy and hope with my customers and my team and a doctor might save your life, but you don’t have much of a life without belief, joy and hope right?
