We were lucky to catch up with Hayley Richardson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayley, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism comes from my Aunt Elaine and Grandmother. Growing up with separated parents I would often spend time with other female relatives like my aunts and my grandma. Whenever I picture them, they always had a smile on their faces no matter the life obstacles they were overcoming. Their great energy had always grown with me and helped me develop a strong positive mindset.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hello, my name is Hayley- I have been a freelance model for about 5 years and a content creator for the past 3. I quickly had a love for sharing content and aspirational photos at around 16, when social media began to be in its prime. I feel immense gratitude to be able to grow up in an era without social media, when it first became, and where it’s at now. I would be in denial if I said social media didn’t help shape where I wanted to take my career and grow passions. With it’s good and bad, I ultimately knew that I wanted to take a creative role in life which lead me first to model, and then to my UGC career.
As a model, I am booked for print jobs, commercials, and even a couple runway shows. If you would have told 19 year old Hayley who was living an extremely rural midwestern town where I am today, it would’ve been complete disbelief. I find modeling to be a creative form of expressing inspirations and bringing magic to life. Being a part of a project and seeing my face model for brands I used to always look up to has been an absolute once in a lifetime experience.
As a creator, I have been able to grow, learn, and become in ways I never knew were possible. I am fully self employed so I was forced to learn the analytical parts of my career, but was well worth the creative advantages that come with being a UGC creator. It’s crazy to think about how I’m given this immense trust by huge brands to create social ads utilizing my creative skills. My creativity flows so naturally for me which is why it’s special.
While I am focused on my clients, I am currently working towards teaching new and aspiring models and creatives and will releasing affordable guides to help anyone looking to establish a career in the creative industry!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that were most impactful on my journey thus far:
1. Being a good listener. Growing up this quality taught me to excel in school, college, and my career today. I think it’s so under-rated as it’s such an important thing to learn from other people- no matter who they are! You never know what little skills you may pick up on by listening to ted talks, one-on-one, peers, and educators.
2. Being open-minded. I cannot tell you how impactful it is to step out of your own shoes and view yourself from different perspectives. Going into conversations and debates, I think it’s important to always view multiple perspectives before forming your own balanced opinion.
3. Setting attainable and future goals. Setting goals that feel unattainable are just as important as ones such as making your bed in the morning. I love to set high goals that feel impossible and build lineage trees off of them on how I will be able to reach my future high set goal.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful mindset my parents did for me was a good, but also bad thing. Forming myself into a perfectionist. When I was younger if something wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t good enough. While I know this isn’t true now, growing up I became an overachiever in many areas of my life and also made me competitive with myself. Always trying to one up myself in ways- which essentially helped me grow in many aspects and has helped me through lifestyle changes, career, and financially.
