We were lucky to catch up with Crystal Speier recently and have shared our conversation below.
Crystal, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Hahaha imposter syndrome is something I think I still suffer from and had serious issues with as my online presence skyrocketed very quickly.
I originally began my Instagram page as a sort of online book of shadows. I kept my personal information from it and shared things I enjoyed and ways I practiced. It gained traction very quickly and soon the page had thousands and then tens of thousands followers and the fear set in. (Laughing)
I really thought to myself “what did I get myself into!”
I kept my face and who I was away from that page for quite a while. I think between 1-2 years. I did a short live and was SO nervous. When I began selling I could hold a product, talk about a product but don’t ask me to put my face on the video! It would cause all sorts of anxiety.
When they say practice makes perfect, they aren’t lying. It took time. For another year at least, I did little videos off and on on my Instagram getting just a little bit more comfortable.
When I started a YouTube channel it got me more out of my comfort zone and little by little I’ve become so much more relaxed to the point that most of the time I don’t event think about it. Funny thing was all this time I was struggling I would look at other accounts going live and having fun and I always wondered why can’t I? There are SO many people doing this, why can’t I? In a way I had to brainwash myself out of being so nervous. It took time but I can do videos fairly easy now. Don’t get me wrong, there are still times now and then I will second guess myself. So I don’t know if I’ll ever be 100% over my imposter syndrome, I just know I’m more comfortable with myself and don’t worry so much about putting my face out there.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve got so much in the works. Life is moving fast and I’m trying to hang on. I am 2 days away from hosting the biggest vendor event I’ve personally ever done and I am excited. This is my first of what I believe will be an annual Summer Solstice Festival I’ve held smaller events before and believe these are a great way to attract your tribe. It brings awareness to the small businesses in the area and of course creates community between so many diverse people on their own spiritual path. Since my stores expansion in March of 2023, I have been working on making connections with other local businesses and healers to collaborate and work towards hosting classes, workshops, healing sessions, moon gatherings and so much more. Having this store and these events gives people a physical place to come, gain knowledge, buy something unique and hopefully make a few friends along the way.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Knowing where to advertise is a huge mountain. It can make you or break you as a business I believe. So many people shop online I was lucky enough to start there. When COVID hit I focused on building and selling and solidifying my online presence. Leaving Etsy and launching a website was a goal I had that helped to build a brand and creditability. I found that hashtags on social media was a great way to draw in more views and did that for several years. As with any online platform things change and being able to flow between platforms is a plus. Local social media pages in your town are a great way to advertise when trying to get your name out there. And it’s okay to do it more than once on a page. Most people don’t see a lot of what gets posted so being consistent is key.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
So as mentioned in a previous paragraph, I was lucky enough to expand to a bigger area in March of 2023. With that new space came an area where I can host classes and workshops. What I’ve come to realize is I can’t do it all. 😂 Don’t we all wish we could? With that being said I am open to collaborating with fellow like minded people to continue to offer the Holistic Community of Pueblos a variety of classes, workshops and healing modalities. We are all striving to learn something new and I would love to be able to continue to advertise that.
