Meet Robin Lyons

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Robin Lyons. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Robin, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

For me, creativity has taken many forms. While my business is making jewelry, I have many other passions like drawing, photography, and poetry. I find that when inspiration isn’t there for one particular creative outlet, I can turn to another to keep that part of me feeling nurtured.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I have been making jewelry in some form or another for the past 20 years. It has evolved and changed with me as I evolve and change, but has always been a sort of touchstone for me. I work with primarily raw minerals, as I find them so beautiful in their unfinished state. My favorite part of creating jewelry is in the connection to the people who will wear it, whether that be my customers or friends and family members. I love to create pieces with someone particular in mind or better yet, to work with someone to create a unique piece and bring their own design to life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I’d say patience, humility, and willingness to ask for help have been the most impactful for me. For artists who are just starting out, I’d say to be kind to yourself, allow plenty of room for mistakes and opportunities to learn, and to get comfortable asking others to help, whether that means asking seasoned artists for guidance or family members for help at art fairs. I wouldn’t be where I am today without lots of help and support.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

I’d say learning to identify and honor my own boundaries. There are days when I am desperate to create and I feel held back by my body’s limitations or by feeling too unfocused to give a project the proper attention. It is a constant battle to recognize where my boundaries need to be, and where to allow space to do less.
