We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Parisa Tsanas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Parisa below.
Parisa , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I struggled with imposter syndrome forever! It sometimes still rears its ugly head when I’m building out an important course or take on new clients. But what helped me overcome this was really simple! I just looked up the word imposter to get really clear on what I was calling myself. The word imposter implies someone who is sneaky, manipulative, a thief, and deceptive. Although I may not have felt worthy to embark on the projects I had been apart of, I knew for a fact I didn’t fit the definition of imposter. I am not any of those things! And by constantly calling myself one I got stuck in that identity. I truly believe our best work and our best ideas are divinely inspired, and the thoughts of doubt and compromised worth are just jabs that are untrue, holding us back in our comfort zones.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Parisa Tsanas and I’m a somatic therapist with a background in neuroimmunology and clinical ethics. I love my job because it takes a neuroscience, trauma informed approach to clinical psychotherapy while also adding an element of somatic release. This is so important because our traumas and triggers don’t just live in our minds but also in our bodies.
I am deeply passionate about offering a somatic trauma informed approach to therapy because it is drastically different and much more effective than psychology or psychiatry. Where classical psychiatry/psychology practices work to help clients intellectualize their problems, somatic trauma informed care helps clients get to the root of their problems and literally change the ways they respond to future challenges. Neuroscience research shows us that we don’t usually have a problem intellectualizing our issues and that simply talking doesn’t change or transform our traumas long term. I also find my approach to be unique in that clients don’t need to work with me weekly for months or years. My goal is offering clients the tools they need to heal on their own and assist them for 3 months until they feel empowered to do so.
I have been doing this work for almost ten years and still haven’t gotten tired of seeing the absolute transformations in my clients. I get to see people who have struggled in singleness for years, get engaged and married quickly because they finally feel worthy and aligned. I have seen clients find their dream jobs and triple their monthly incomes. I have seen familial and friendship bonds repair once old wounds were healed. I believe this level of care is miraculous and life changing which is why I decided to turn my approach into a course certification. My hope and prayer is that if you feel called to do meaningful, important, and healing work in the world, you could take my course and feel confident about your skills and toolkit. Helping the world become a more loving, kind and empowered place is my mission. So certifying others to do this work amongst their own communities was a no brainer to me! The more compassionate and well informed therapists that are available to the public, the more help people will find and the better we will all be for it!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say the three qualities that were most pivotal to my success in all the areas of my life were:
1. Faith
2. Self empowerment
3. Staying humble
I truly believe if all three of these characteristics are regularly embodied, anyone can achieve success in ANY arena of their lives.
Faith is my absolute number one priority. I truly believe in a higher power (I call mine God, but you can call yours what resonates with you). This is so important to take on as a core belief, because without an ability to surrender your worries, thoughts, or desires to a higher power, the weight of the world rests on your shoulders and that’s a recipe for burnout, anxiety and depression. Having a concept of a higher power keeps you grounded in the present and away from worrying about the future or anything that is truly outside of your control. Trusting your life is huge in maintaining stellar mental and emotional health and thriving spiritually.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client would be someone who has hit their personal rock bottom in life and are really looking for BIG growth and change. My ideal client is someone who honestly has a basis in spiritual belief and is really ready to try something NEW and exciting. My ideal client is someone who is ready for results, who is hardworking and gets excited by the thought of a nice leap of faith.
