Meet Kelli Miller

We recently connected with Kelli Miller and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelli, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

I get my generosity from the idea that kindness is the highest form of intelligence. It’s so important that we are generous to one another because we are all in this world together. Everyone wants to feel special in this world and if we can each do our part to help each other, it goes a very long way.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

It’s always hard to talk about ourselves and it shouldn’t be! We should be proud of our achievements. So here goes in the 3rd person…

Kelli Miller, LCSW is a psychotherapist, best-selling author, and radio host. Kelli is the author of the couples relationship book “Love Hacks: Simple Solutions to Your Most Common Relationship Issues” and the two-time award winning author of “Thriving with ADHD”. Kelli was a co-host on LA Talk Radio, an expert radio personality for SIRIUS/XM radio, the “Women’s Relationship Expert” for the Examiner.com, an advice columnist to the largest list serv in the country, on California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist’s editorial board, and a panelist for CalState Northridge’s TV show. She was a freelance writer to over 12 magazines and newspapers. Kelli currently works in private practice to individual and couples and she is grateful because she absolutely loves what she does.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1) Resilience – Resilience is one of those qualities that has to earned. And it can only be done through hard challenges and obstacles. It’s coming back after a difficult experience, learning from it, and growing because of it.

2) Trust- Trusting that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. It’s knowing that you are meant to be in this place in your life for reasons we may or may not understand right now. But it’s trusting the process and letting go of the outcomes.

3) Persistence- It’s not giving up. It’s that simple. Yes, it’s hard and may be a struggle but keep going. You’ll eventually get to where you want to be.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

“When Things Fall Apart” by Pema Chodron.

This is a wonderful book on the reminder that things in life are neither good nor bad. They just are. It’s a book I refer back to often when life gets challenging. It’s a beautiful lesson on taking things as they are.
