Meet Jessica McEachern

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jessica McEachern a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jessica, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my values and my goals. I take pride in my work. I go above and beyond what’s required of me. I am very organized and dependable. I tend to have a to-do list to remain focused and on target. I am task oriented so its important for me to complete tasks. I finish what I start. I am passionate about everything I do. I have worked since the age of fifteen. I have worked in the field of human services for over eighteen years. I worked during my undergraduate and graduate years of college. I come from a family of hardworking women. If I want something, I work to get it. Nothing has been given to me. I wasn’t born into a wealthy family. My family has worked for everything they have. My work ethic is learned through personal experiences and influences. My work ethic is motivated by my determination to reach all of my goals and have the things I want in life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am an author, songstress, songwriter, social worker, and publisher. Writing allows me to imagine and explore. Writing is a way to express myself and my ideas. I enjoy writing books and songs. I am the author of the children’s book “When I Grow Up”. The character in the book cannot settle down for bed because she is excited thinking about all of the amazing careers she can choose from when she grows up. Throughout the book, the character imagines herself as many of her career options, from Anesthesiologist to Zoologist and everything in between.

I have four songs on music streaming platforms. The songs are “Be with me”, “Tonight”, “Naughty Girl”, and “Scared to love”. I will release another song this year titled “Lipstick”. I want to release another children’s book this year titled “Better Together”. Books and music allow me to reach people of diverse background and experiences. Music connects and unites people. Books are entertaining, informative, and socially engaging. A book can spark a conversation and bring people together.

Social Workers help individuals overcome challenges and improve their quality of life. Social Workers promote social change and empower people and communities. Social workers strengthen relationships and enhance the well-being of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Social Workers are change agents, problem solvers, critical thinkers, facilitators, advocates, clinicians, community organizers, activists, planners, writers, and researchers.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Work ethic, resilience, and discipline are three qualities that are impactful in my journey as an author, social worker, songstress, and songwriter. Set goals and take action to reach them. Break those goals down into steps to make the goals attainable. Use the resources within your reach. Network and build connections. Continually develop your craft. Invest in your goals. Do not give up, perseverance goes a long way. Do not let setbacks, distractions, or being told no, get in the way. Do not let anyone minimize your vision. Cultivate your dream and fulfill your purpose.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I would spend time with family and friends, travel, attend sporting events, go to comedy shows, enjoy music concerts, and continue spiritual growth. I would release all my books and music. I would host author events and music events. I would organize community events. I would participate in speaking engagements to empower visionaries. I would motivate others to attain their goals. I would perform music at various shows. I would take part in author events. I would partake in book events. I would live life and focus on everything that brings me happiness and peace.
