We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shonte Youmans a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Shonte, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity has been built up from experiencing not having anything as a child and in adulthood. It’s hard to understand what means to give when you’ve never been without. So my generosity stemmed from not having, but my love for being able to help people in need. Sometimes I give too much and I had to learn how to allow others to pour into my cup. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but a much needed one to thrive in my impact and my purpose.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Shonté Youmans is the CEO of Fresh Start Consulting and TravelWithSass. The passion to serve has always been in her and her heart has always been dedicated to serve. She has faced so many challenges in her life including being a broken little girl whose voice was never heard, who struggled with her identity and trying to in fit where she felt love, but they no longer define her circumstances. She is selfless and loyal by default; if she can lend a helping hand then it will be done.
She stands as a woman of substance who strives to be better at womanhood each and every day. Shonte has always had a passion for helping people in any capacity. But more so helping people dive into their inner self to understand who they are and what they stand for.
Along her journey of life she has had the pleasure of attending the University of South Carolina-Aiken and obtained a Bachelor of Art in Communication where she had the opportunity to write and speak about her mess in which she found great pleasure in sharing her life experiences. It was in those moments she realized her mess was her message and a part of her healing becoming an #1 International Best Selling Author and #1 Best Selling Author twice.
She has also attended Kaplan University obtaining a Master in Science in Criminal Justice and attended Capella University where she competed a doctorate program except the dissertation. It was a great challenge but she completed the task. She was on a journey of proving herself by any means necessary but sadly it wasn’t enough so her impact became greater.
She impacts, influences and has intentions to be the change to anyone she comes in contact with by teaching women how to show up as their best selves. She is The Voice Pusher because she helps others understand the power in their voice. She offers group coaching and is the Visionary Host of The Business Bestie Networking Experience curated to bring women entrepreneurs together to connect, collaborate and communicate.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the most important qualities one should look for when trying to achieve a specific goal is to make sure you vet the person you want to serve you. Like do your own research and be sure that you need an expert before you start investing in the wrong areas.
Make sure their skills match their receipts. Meaning they can actually do what they say they can do. This too requires research of their social media accounts and website. Make sure they have the capability to do what you need and how you need it done.
Don’t go to the funeral home looking for a t-shirt designer if that makes sense. Verify credentials and specialized areas before you invest in their services.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Shonté is big on collaboration being that she is able to help other business owners market their brand to over 100 million homes by being a guest on Channeling Connections. She is also the Visionary Host of The Business Bestie Networking Experience an opportunity for other like-minded women to position their brand to market to their target audience by partnering up. She is available to discuss other potential collaboration opportunities and or partnerships with other business owners who truly want to see people win.
