Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Faith Sycaoyao. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Faith, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Thank you! My generosity comes from a genuine desire to make a positive impact on others’ lives. Growing up, I spent summers in the Philippines, where I witnessed the struggles of communities in the slums of Tondo and other flooded neighborhoods and provinces. Seeing their resilience despite such hardships inspired me to believe in the transformative power of kindness, support, and art. Through creative philanthropy, I aim to use art as a tool to spread goodwill, inspire hope, and foster positive change, making a difference one act at a time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an artist committed to using my work to support causes like child welfare, poverty alleviation, and sustainability. Recognized for its elegance and ethereal qualities, my art has resonated with 70,000 followers across more than 40 countries on social media. As a Deputy Graphics Director, I also contribute to the global dissemination of climate information, statistics, and news through creative projects with Climate Cardinals.
Looking ahead, I feel honored to have the opportunity to showcase my art in an upcoming AR Exhibition in Rome, Italy, where stickers will be featured in Parco del Colle Oppio. I am also grateful to be featured in the upcoming issue of the Global Filipino Magazine in Dubai, UAE. Additionally, my works are included in “A Like Artist Vol. II” Art Book in Barcelona and UT Austin’s Apricity Magazine Issue VIII. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my early journey, I believe the three qualities that have had the most impact are discipline, patience, and self-reflection. Discipline has helped me maintain focus and consistency in pursuing my goals despite setbacks, distractions, and others’ criticisms. Patience has taught me resilience and the importance of staying committed during challenging times, as everyone faces similar trials. As an artist, patience is also very crucial for completing thousands of pieces and working long hours without complete exhaustion, while balancing life’s demands. Thus, merging patience with purpose is powerful in pursuing any dream! Lastly, self-reflection has been crucial in understanding my weaknesses and focusing on passions and strengths that truly align with myself. This process greatly expands my growth areas and allows continual improvement and adaptability in different cultural contexts and environments.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to cultivate discipline by setting clear and broken down goals with deadlines. Make sure to DO them, or focus on ACTION rather than just “having the thought of doing it.” Then, develop habits that support your ambitions, as these will transform your daily routines. Understand persistence as you face setbacks and delays, trusting in the growth process and believing in God. Understand that setting aside time for solitude, regular self-reflection, gratitude, and awareness will be extremely valuable for you, as refining your inner being and mind will greatly support you on what lies ahead.
Furthermore, developing a diverse skill set tailored to your strengths improves your competencies and distinctive features. So, keep your curiosity and willingness to learn afloat, because expanding your knowledge through new experiences will benefit your journey. I believe the world offers infinite possibilities for learning and unlimited opportunities to create or pursue!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Thank you for asking! Indeed, I’m currently seeking collaborative opportunities with nonprofit leaders or organization owners who share a passion for empowering underprivileged individuals in the Philippines through funding and support. I also welcome corporate sponsorships to assist with projects in areas such as arts and culture, sustainability, poverty alleviation, or education. If you are interested in supporting other regions in Asia, I would greatly appreciate that as well and look forward to discussing suitable opportunities!
Furthermore, I am looking to connect with US-based students/professionals who are interested in future leadership roles, including positions on the Board of Directors, for an upcoming nonprofit centered around children and art.
