Meet Alex Luciano

We were lucky to catch up with Alex Luciano recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alex, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

I had to learn how to read the room first. I was always surrounded by (No men). I always tried to look for the successful people in the room but had no luck. Since a young’n I always voiced my opinion, Though it was always shutdown all the time by so many individuals, I still expressed what was on my mind. That’s when I started to realize that I was different and not like them. As soon as I found out that I was interested in things that they weren’t interested in, It made me happy inside, It kind of felt like it was only meant for me, for my own little world. At a young age I decided that I was going to be successful and go for what I want in life. I saw so many of them failing constantly after saying they were going to succeed but as I watched closely, They were only saying these things, Not Persuing them. As I got older, the same people were still in the same situation and I had grew out of that and went beyond my limits. That’s what made me successful and effective in life today.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a music Producer/Composer and I make music for TV. I love creating music in general but making music for tv, now that is something special. It all starts with what’s going on in the scene. I can already hear the sounds in my head while watching the suspenseful scene with no music. I’ve been blessed to have landed 12 placements on National geographic, Disney plus and Hulu. And the journey continues to many more!!!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The 3 main skills I’ve always had were strength, motivation and ambition. Those were and still are the main skills that get me thru anything today. I take a look back at everything I’ve ever been thru, anything i’ve ever encountered whether good or bad and I was able to come out of it or get thru it with strength, motivation and ambition. The only advice that I would give is to continue on your path for whatever it is that you are working hard for, fighting for, wanting etc. Life is going to come at you with a lot. Life is going to test you and put you in difficult situations and the moment is going to come when you’ll have to make that tough decision and ask yourself, is all of this worth it or not? That’s what happened to me and I decided to come out of it because I did not want to end up like the (no men) from my past. I decided to conquer and keep it moving. Life is like a boxing ring except your opponent is yourself and only you can stop you, everyone else is just in the way. Remember that.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

For me it’s always been about strength. You can wake up one day and say to yourself “today’s the day” and then fail at your attempt at whatever you were trying to accomplish. I can honestly tell you from experience that things don’t pan out the way you plan in the beginning. You will not achieve a life long goal in a day. It takes time and people hate to hear that. Most people want it right away and realistic people know that’s not how it works. Don’t get me wrong, it sucks not getting what you’ve been trying to achieve but the goal is not to give up. Don’t give up on your dreams, your goals, your family but most importantly don’t give up on yourself. That’s why I always go all in on my strengths and beliefs, I know that no matter what I’m trying to accomplish or wherever I want to be in life, I will get there. It all started when I was 10 years old. Dreaming of the life I wanted to live, making music and being happy. Going back to my wonder years, wondering if I will ever leave my old neighborhood and the people around me. The same people who told me that dreams are only dreams and that’s why they come and go. The same people who do not believe in themselves and are too scared to try to succeed in life. So yes, push yourself beyond your limits and you will break out of your comfort zone.
