Meet LYNX

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful LYNX. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with LYNX below.

LYNX, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Most of my life, I’ve been “the only one in the room.” I was taught that I’d always be seen as an outsider, so I had to be EXTRA polite, EXTRA bright and better than anyone could ever assume me to be.

A tall order for this little girl, for sure. I didn’t always uphold the sky-high standards that were set for me, but I grew very much attached to the idea of disproving assumptions. Showing up where I was least expected to appear and doing something unexpected – and doing it well – has been my way of saying, “look at Me. Talk to Me, not the color of my skin or my gender, just Me.”

This philosophy has helped me move through the world with a bit more ease and far less trepidation about being “the only one in the room.”

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

As the voice of OLD BLOOD, I’ve gotten to live out my dream, on stages, all over the USA with an amazingly talented group of great friends. We’re currently preparing to release our third album and planning a short tour to support it, around the western states, later this year.

As an astrologer, I’m looking forward to sharing the practice with more people. In the past, I’ve simply used it in my personal life and amongst friends. This year, I’m launching Lynx Rising Astrology, where I offer readings among several other specialized services, still in the planning stages.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Being a “triple threat” was always something to aspire to, in the performance space. If you can sing, dance AND act, you’d have it made, right? Finding as many aspects of performance to dive into has given me skills I can use in just about any place in life.

Singing, dancing and acting doesn’t simply have to refer to performing on a stage or in front of a camera. Using one’s voice effectvely, moving well and reading a room are all examples of how these skills translate to life in the wild.

Speech and vocal coaching, physical movement in dance, sport or agility training – even improv or Toastmasters groups are all great ways to hone these skills for one’s own purposes.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

In the last year, I’ve gotten much better at defining what I need in my life in order for my life’s work to happen. I used to simply try to do “it all,” regardless of how overwhelmed It All would make me. Now, I’m better able to establish boundaries around my time, my life and my goals.
