Meet Nicole Drew

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Drew. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Nicole, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Confidence and self-esteem development is an inside job ultimately, so I think it strengthened over time with being able to trust my own self and my abilities. I also view myself as imperfect, and that’s perfectly OK (no pun intended!). Striving for perfection is a set up for disappointment. I also blocked out any negative thoughts or self-depravation. I’m constantly learning, and take any mistake or loss as an opportunity. Self-esteem is something that I will continue to prioritize in both my personal and professional life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the Founder & CEO of the “Anti-Catfishing” singles’ social app, Rater. I founded Rater after an experience I had in 2018 when I was victimized in a romance scam. After the scam, I realized that the dating app platforms didn’t take this type of criminal behavior seriously and that there was no way for me to warn other potential victims. The mission behind Rater is to give our user’s a voice after an interaction with matches and to remove overt profile catfishing off the platform completely. We also take trust and safety of the user’s extremely seriously. Rater requests ID and photo verification and runs each user through a cell phone number scammer and sex offender / violent felon check. IRL and in person events and interaction is heavily encouraged with our ‘Radar by Rater’ city-wide pop-up mixers and user generated events.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Passion
2. Grit
3. Ability to pivot quickly

Passion comes naturally most the time if you chose a project that you are interested in or have prior personal connection to. Grit comes next once you have the passion and perseverance. Ability to pivot quickly and adaptability to change is crucial in the early days of a start-up because every hour is a new journey.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My parents allowed me to be free in the sense that I could think how I wanted and with what came naturally. They also showed my love and unwavering support not only as a child, but as an adult start-up founder. My parents were the first friends and family investor in Rater. That meant more than you’ll ever know!
