Meet Laprè

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laprè a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Laprè, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Resilience runs in my family, i get it specifically from my mom and my grandma. No matter how things looked, i watched them preserver and push through life and any obstacles that came their way. I am blessed to be able to inherit those same traits and it has been one of my greatest benefits through life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an independent Recording Artist by the name of Laprè pronounced (luh-pray). I was born in Maywood, Illinois and raised in Chandler, Arizona and i’ve been an active music artist for almost 6 years but involved in music since childhood.

My music & sound is a versatile mix between alternative R&B and Hip-hop. I sing, rap, song-write, Engineer, produce & make beats. I’m self taught on a variety of instruments and can dance.

In one world, I’m most known for singing in groups and playing instruments. In the other, I’m the melodic singer & rapper who creates and records music to release to the masses, who also collaborates with other amazing Artists & Creatives inside and outside the Arizona Local music scene.

One of the major milestones in my career was when I released a rap album entitled “Check Me Out” with JC3 Media & earned 5 television placements between 2021-2022 on “Snoop & Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween Special” on Peacock, “The Sex Lives Of College Girls” on HBO max & “The Impact Atlanta” on BET+. I went from writing and recording the music with JC3, to hearing my voice on TV, to receiving my first check & deposit from BMI. It was an unforgettable experience.

I’ve created and released lots of music on all streaming platforms & have had much success building my own name for myself locally. Thanks to JC3 Media & networking within my community, I’ve also been able to expand my brand to listeners on a more national and international basis as well.

Currently, I’m most proud of the recent album I released toward the end of 2023 entitled “Route 24”. To start the new year, I released a high energy music video with my team Cactus Music Group to the intro of the album “Me Vs Me”. Since then, I’ve been focused on marketing & monetizing my catalog in any way I can. Like performing all over locally, shooting & releasing high quality visuals, featuring on blogs and podcast/radio interviews & selling merchandise. I have plans to release new music & more videos throughout the rest of the year, also to collaborate with more amazing creatives in and out of the Arizona to continue to spread my name to a more mainstream & nationwide audience.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, i feel my consistency , confidence , & patience were qualities that have been the most impactful in my music journey.

The best advice i can offer to any upcoming Artist/Musician starting early in their journey to help develop and improve these specific qualities is to: research what you are passionate about to have the knowledge to help stimulate your creativity, let your intuition guide you in any moves or decisions you may make along the way, trust every outcome is for your highest good, and most importantly don’t quit reaching to achieve any goal you put your mind to.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The number one obstacle/challenge I’m currently facing is periods of “imposter syndrome”. Most times it’s easier said than done to push through.

“When you experience negative trauma or anxiety it can affect one’s ability to believe that success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one’s own efforts or skills.”

With that being said, i acknowledge and accept that “imposter syndrome” is common and normal and to overcome these obstacles & challenges i start with readapting my mindset to more positive thinking then focus on my own strengths & what i’ve learned and achieved, rather than what I don’t know or haven’t done.

I often remind myself that everyone has their own message, lane, & light to give to this world just like me and someone else shining their light doesn’t block mine from reaching others. In other words, keep shining and keep going.
