Meet JDmadethis

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful JDmadethis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JDmadethis below.

JDmadethis, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

“I have only found myself to have ever felt nervous due to a lack of skills or preparation. I learned that any time I was
nervous when meeting with a new client or working with a new recording artist, it was because I was not confident in my abilities. Developing confidence and self-esteem only exists through the realm of relentless practice and dedication to whatever your career or practice is.

Beyond that, I found that surrounding myself with a supportive network of peers and mentors helped immensely. Feedback from others not only improved my skills but also reinforced my belief in my capabilities. It’s also important to celebrate small victories along the way, as they remind you of your progress and growth.

Lastly, embracing failure as a part of the learning process has been crucial. Each mistake is an opportunity to improve, and understanding this helped me to approach new challenges with a mindset geared towards growth rather than fear. Confidence and self-esteem are built over time, and it’s a continuous journey of learning and self-improvement.”

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My day-to-day job is a bit unusual compared to most people. I usually wake up around 10 am, often because I’m working until 4 or 5 am the night before. While this doesn’t allow for much sleep, I hate to waste the day. I have a pretty free-form schedule and work whenever I want, which gives me the flexibility to be creative and productive on my terms.

I have a room inside ID Labs Studio located in Pittsburgh, PA. This studio is famous for putting artists like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller on the map. I have about 500-600 clients I record and mix for regularly, including clients from all over the country, not just local artists. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to record, produce, and mix records for artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Fedd The God, Juicy J, Chevy Woods, Kirko Bangz, and many more.

For those interested in my work, I encourage you to check out my YouTube content at @jdmadethis. You can also visit my website at www.jdmadethis.com to learn more about me, and browse through the instrumentals I have available for purchase. I’m also @jdmadethis on all social media platforms, so feel free to connect with me there.

Thank you for your interest in my work. I’m excited to share my passion for music with you all and look forward to many more creative projects in the future.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I believe the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are:

1. Understanding that the customer is always right. This isn’t just a cliché; it’s a fundamental principle of running a successful business. Ensuring customer satisfaction is paramount, and being receptive to their feedback is crucial for growth and improvement.

2. Honesty. This quality remains top-tier in any profession. Being honest with clients, collaborators, and yourself builds trust and fosters long-term relationships. Integrity in your work and communication is a virtue that can set you apart in any field.

3. Achieving a healthy work-life balance. This area of knowledge has been crucial for my journey. You will never truly be happy or productive until you learn to manage your time effectively. Balancing work with personal life is essential for mental and emotional well-being. Life is short, and finding this balance allows you to enjoy both your professional achievements and personal moments.

For those early in their journey, my advice is to focus on these three areas. Prioritize customer satisfaction, practice honesty in all your dealings, and strive to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life. These elements are foundational for long-term success and fulfillment in any career.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was buy my a guitar at the age of 10. I was a spoiled little kid who just wanted a guitar because it seemed cool at the time, but it ended up changing my life forever. My parents always pushed me to do what I wanted in life, whatever was going to make me happy.
