We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eurydice Eve a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eurydice , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I come from an ancient island where 2,500 years ago another woman writer lived and wrote about it and she is well-known to this day. Her name was Sappho. She, like me, had one child, a daughter, and celebrated love and beauty and nature. She has been called, as I have been, an erosophe. The town where she and I were born, has been continuously inhabited since early Paleolithic times and little has changed in the habits and mindset of its inhabitants. All this makes me resilient in the face of modern time.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I research how we live and I write prescient books about contemporary life, based on that research. I focus on the experience of women, who have been outliers in culture for the past millennia. I speak for many generations of silenced women, both in my writing and in my fabric art. I have a recognizable voice that’s fearless and innovative, confrontational and feminine. I exhibit hand-stitched tapestries and large-scale hand-embroidered collages in galleries around the world under my emotionally powerful brand, Art Against All by Eurydice Eve. I host the Speak with Eve Eurydice podcast on YouTube, Spotify, Audible, X, where I discuss popular topics that many are afraid to take on. I am passionate about validating mothers, primarily by valuating their work as any other job. I advocate for a Universal Mother Income (UMI). In short, I am a philosopher.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Creative: I have created unique artistic and literary content in abundance every day. I believe that creating out of thin air is the most essential human quality and ability. I can live off selling my artwork and not live in a mindset of scarcity. I can trust in my mental fertility and ability to invent and proliferate. ART
2. Innovative: I have always pushed forward and updated my ideas and work rather than hankered down to repeat the same things and skills I have already acquired. I have continuously challenged myself and my audience. AGAINST
3. Humanitarian: I have been driven by a passionate desire to make this a better world and to serve all people through my work. I believe in tackling social crises and problems of social imbalance and injustice. I work by the concept of One For All. I can trust in my pure intentions in all I do. ALL
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Our ideas of right and wrong, even of truth and reality, come from the distant past. Long after we have changed the conditions we live in and the cultures we organize under, we keep behaving as we saw our ancestors behave. There is a delay reaction in this. There is an emotional resistance to what is logical and rational. What is familiar and comforting is not healthy and helpful. This is the challenge I face when I try to explain the necessity for a Universal Mother Income as a precondition for humanity to move forward.
