We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lianna Musa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lianna below.
Lianna, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
You don’t ever overcome Imposter Syndrome, you manage it better. It is your worst enemy and best friend, and learning how to live with it helps you keep striving to learn and improve. I had always let it paralyze me with fear when showing off my work, and recently I realized that no one will know what you do or who you are if you don’t post, so I brute forced myself to push through it. Worst comes to worse, someone says no and I move on to the next thing.
Imposter Syndrome can help us push ourselves to go farther; it’s a motivator to get better or be left behind. It is important to have some self-worth otherwise it can swallow you whole.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an Illustrator based in South Florida who works in everything fantasy. I’ve loved fantasy since I was in high school playing DND in sweaty locker rooms. I recently graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a B.F.A in Illustration and I am super excited to see what the future holds! I am looking for a job and possibly will go to a couple of conventions later this year! I want this year to be a year of overwhelming creation and plenty of fun work!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three important qualities of an artist are patience, communication, and good marketing skills. My advice is to just post what you want, It doesn’t have to be perfect. It will be your worst paralyzer to sit and wait for things to be perfect . Don’t go into something without research, but don’t let the fear of the unknown stop you from doing what you love.
Learn, grow and adapt. You’ll be fine, this is everyone’s first time being alive.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to work with people from different cultures. I love talking about growing up in my Greek, Arabic, and Jewish household, but I love learning about how people grew up in the places they lived. I also would love to work with people in the LGBT+ community. I have gone through a long journey to figure out that I was a butch and I’m so excited to share my journey through my art.
