We recently connected with Courtney Turich and have shared our conversation below.
Courtney, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Building confidence and self-esteem has been a journey of evolution for me. It involved a lot of reflection on my past and understanding how far I’ve come. I strongly believe in recognizing our personal strengths as a way to unlock our potential. Once I empowered myself with these core strengths, a whole new world opened up for me. My confidence and self-esteem are no longer just a facade; they are now an integral part of who I am, embodied from my core. The strengths have made me bold, confident, and ME!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an Indiana girl at heart, but my curiosity and ambition have taken me far beyond my roots. My personal and professional journey has led me to live in eight different states, constantly pushing me out of my comfort zone and teaching me to thrive in new environments.
With over 20 years of experience as a sales and marketing leader in the medtech industry, I’ve always been passionate about helping others. However, deep down, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. This drive led me to start a company that was featured on Shark Tank, where I struck a deal with Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner. Although it was a successful venture, I faced financial struggles and lost a sense of self along the way.
After selling my shares, I returned to the medtech field with a new determination: to work only with start-ups that I am fiercely passionate about. This commitment brought me to Cooler Heads, where I serve as the Global VP of Sales & Marketing. Our innovative technology helps minimize hair loss during chemotherapy, a mission close to my heart because hair loss during cancer treatment is not just about vanity—it’s about preserving privacy, identity, and a sense of normalcy during one of the most challenging times in a person’s life.
Combining all my life experiences, I am now sharing my voice through my podcast which will launch this fall 2024, “Bold Moves, Confident Choices,” and my keynote speaking platform. If I can help others shine their light it makes my Northstar even more powerful. This is why I live by my motto: Be Bold. Be Confident. Be You.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1)Knowing and Believing in Your Strengths: Knowing and truly believing my strengths is at the top of this list, as once I embraced what made me thrive, this is where I became more unstoppable.
My Advice: I’m a big believer in the Gallup Strength Finder (It’s simple and easy to digest), but also seek feedback from trusted colleagues, and reflect on past successes. Once identified, consciously leverage these strengths in your work and life to build confidence and momentum but you must also know the pitfalls of your strengths too.
2) Getting Comfortable with the Uncomfortable: Get comfortable with the uncomfortable. There is one constant in life and that is CHANGE. I have personally learned to be a change agent in my life. Being uncomfortable is where I come alive!
My Advice: Embrace change as an opportunity for growth. Practice stepping out of your comfort zone regularly by taking on new challenges, learning new skills, and seeking experiences that push your boundaries. This mindset will help you become more adaptable and resilient.
3)Finding Your Tribe: These are people who lift me up when I’m down but also call me out when I need to elevate my game.
My Advice: Surround yourself with supportive and honest individuals who encourage your growth. Cultivate relationships with mentors, peers, and communities that share your values and goals. Your tribe will provide valuable feedback, support, and accountability.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
This is a significant question for me, as there hasn’t been just one person who has helped me overcome challenges or achieve success. Life comes in waves, and so do the people who make a significant impact on our lives. I am profoundly grateful to the many mentors who have believed in me and guided me over my 46 years. Each mentor has contributed uniquely to my growth, bringing forth different strengths that have collectively made me a stronger and more successful woman.
