Hi Angeleah , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

This is something very close to my heart. I know that I am not the only women who struggles with confidence and self-esteem issues and from a young age I really struggled with this. Even though I knew I was beautiful deep down the constant comparison to other women was truly a struggle. I believe the biggest thing that has helped me see through the construct they put up around women and how we are born rivals was and is my yoga practice. I can almost stem all the progress I have made back to this practice. It has helped me shed the layers of misinformation about what my body should be or look like and that we as women are sisters. We are all beautiful and unique in our own truth. The trick is to not get sucked into the narrative that we are in competition with one another but we are there for each other as mirrors and guides to help us on our path. Confidence is still a struggle, but I just remember that there is no one else like me, so right off the bat I know that I bring a unique expression to whatever I do just by being me! My self-esteem I think is more difficult to heal for me personally. Body shaming and experiencing body dysmorphia has been a real challenge but as I started my healing journey on my mat I have learned to love the parts of me that I was always told not to. Like my stretch marks and scar from having my beautiful daughter. I just remind myself that everything I have been through has brought me to this moment how my body looks and feels is also a reflection of that and I shift my awareness into loving compassion. When you shift your awareness of the situation you start to see how beautiful you truly are and not just within yourself but also the beauty in all of us. You have to start with acceptance of where you are in order to go beyond what is holding you back.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Well on a day to day I am mostly focused on taking care of my daughter, she is about to be three years old and she truly is the light of my life. She had a really complicated birth and was diagnosed with Gastroschisis while she was in my womb. We knew from there her birth would be anything but normal. I was in school at the time to become an elementary school teacher, but from the minute I found out that I was having a child I knew I wanted to put that path on hold. Becoming a teacher didn’t sound right anymore. I knew I would be dedicating too much time and energy on other peoples children and neglecting my own. So, I didn’t go back to finish my final year. Instead I focused on my birth prep and the delivery of our baby girl. We spent the first 3 months in the NICU.
After we came home and I was fully in recovery I started to feel the urge to get back onto my mat and also start a new career path. I always want to move into the beauty world and I almost went to beauty school after I graduated high school but something was holding me back. So I decided it would be the perfect time to explore that world again. So enrolled in an esthetics program here is Spokane, WA after my daughter turned one. I feel in love with the healing and relaxation that was so thoughtfully built around facials and knew this was something I had a knack for. After my certification I decided I wanted to open up my own little space and with a lot of help from friends and family I was able to open my business this last winter in February 2024!
I have been open for five months now and yes owning your own business is hard it is so worth it! I get to design my own hours and still have plenty of time with my little one.
My goal is to integrate all of my healing modalities in one space. Connecting yoga, esthetics, and reiki in one healing space. I truly believe feeling good on the inside is just as important and more so than looking good on the outside.
As I just came up on my 10 year anniversary of teaching yoga, I have been wanting more than ever to truly show what this practice can do for an individual. I want the threads of body, mind and soul to braided together in my life and in my business.
Other passions of mine include painting, writing (especially poems), and creating scared spaces. I never want to limit myself to just one profession or one goal in life. I want to explore every fasciate of myself and want to empower others to do the same.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Listen to your heart! Don’t care about what other people think or say about you! And learn how to trust/love yourself.
I you listen to your heart, the more you listen the louder it will speak to you. I have made plenty of bad decisions in my life and when I look back I remember my heart was telling me this is not a good idea. But as you continue to listen it will be harder to ignore your true desires and from what I have learned is that your heart will never steer you wrong. You want to start your own business? Podcast? Creating Jewelry? Just ask yourself if that is something your really want and if its a full body yes then do it!
Don’t care about what other people think or say about you. This I know is harder then it sounds, but trust me people are going to say and think things about you anyways, no matter what you do someone will not like you so you might as well give them something to talk about! What truly matters is how you think about yourself and the words you say to yourself. You have all the knowledge within you, so do what’s right for you and forget the rest!
Learn how to trust & love yourself. I feel like this last one is a compliation of the last two but it goes a little deeper. When you learn how to trust your instincts and intuition you will never make a bad decision. When you learn how to love yourself fully, you are able to forgive your past selves and heal things within you that you didn’t know was still there then you can fully accept where you are today. And today is a new day to accomplish your dreams. When you trust and love yourself you can fully open up to the world and all the potential in it.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

My number one challenge I am facing now is how to really and firmly grow my business. Being a stay at home mom is hard! Do I love it? Yes, with all my heart. I love that I get to watch and help my daughter grow, but it is very hard to navigate out of the waters of caretaker to business owner. I am truly struggling with how to go about the next 6 months of business and whether to put my child into the hands of someone else during the day so I can work more. It’s a double sided sword. And for the mommas out there doing their best to navigate being a mom just know I am right there with you. I don’t think there is a right way to parent. You just have to do what feels right for you and your child and that is what I am trying to explore right now. How to balance business life and family life without feeling the mom guilt or feeling like a slacker at work. I am just going to trust the process and like I usually find in life is that the answers usually come to us in some form or another. We just need to be open to receive the messages life subtly gives us.
