Meet Jamie Hatfield

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Hatfield. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.

Jamie, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Growing up, I struggled with work ethic. My mom was a single mom and always worked hard for her family but I never really felt motivated or driven to work. However, everything changed after I got sober. Surrounding myself with people who believed in me and finding something that gave me purpose was the catalyst that sparked my work ethic into life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a person in recovery with over 4 years of sobriety. My journey has been a tumultuous one, taking me through countless rehabs, jails, and even prison. Each experience, though challenging, has shaped me into who I am today. Now, I’ve turned my past struggles into a powerful mission to help others find their path to recovery.

In my roles at both companies I work for, I have the unique opportunity to engage directly with the criminal justice system and its clients. This means I work closely with individuals who are navigating some of the toughest moments of their lives. I assist them in finding the hope and strength they need to overcome their own battles.

What I love most about my work is the ability to transform my past into something beautiful and meaningful. Helping people who are in the same position I once was brings me immense fulfillment. Recovering from a hopeless state of mind and body is an arduous journey, but witnessing the transformation on the other side is truly breathtaking. It’s a privilege to make that transformation my job, guiding others towards a brighter future.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My lived experience is my greatest asset in the treatment field. Having walked the same path as my clients, I can relate to their struggles in ways that most can’t. This unique perspective allows me to guide them through their process of achieving a new way of life with genuine empathy and understanding.

I firmly believe that compassion is the key to effective treatment. Keeping an open mind and recognizing that everyone is fighting a battle we might not see is crucial. This awareness helps me stay neutral and composed in tough situations, providing the support my clients need on a daily basis. By combining my personal journey with professional dedication, I strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I work with.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

I believe that true success lies in balancing your strengths with a commitment to improving your weaknesses. Leveraging your strengths is essential to excelling in your field, but real growth comes from addressing and building on your weaknesses. This approach not only enhances your current capabilities but also propels you to new heights, unlocking levels of achievement you haven’t reached yet. By continuously refining both strengths and weaknesses, you pave the way for ongoing personal and professional development.
