We recently connected with Samantha Vetter and have shared our conversation below.
Samantha , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Through the exception that, sometimes people aren’t going to like you. Whether its your appearance, humor, or even just your vibe; you’re not always going to be palatable for everyone in the room. But you know what, neither is cilantro, and for the people that know it’s delicious, they’ll enjoy the moments they experience it in something. Whereas the soap crowd can be taken with a grain of salt and move on. I’m not out here trying to yuk anyones yum, the time spent on trying to blend could be better spent enhancing your own self experience in the moment and move on.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
As a Mom of two of the sweetest gremlins I know, the moments we have together as a whole fly by quicker than you realize, and creating a memorable moment that you can hold on too is important for me. You can typically find me at local events in Virginia Beach, I’m relatively easy to find in the crowd of vendors, My tent looks like a giant mushroom from the outside, where inside clients sit on a chair that looks like a giant sunflower, while I tie fairy hair (tinsel) to a few follicles of hair. Typically lasting anywhere from a few days to several months, because as your hair naturally sheds, the tinsel will to. Having the opportunity to create a memorable moment for other families, makes my heart happy too.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Explore what interests you, as someone who has enjoyed fiber arts for over 20 years, when I noticed fairy hair at festivals, I knew with some time and patience, I could figure it out. Did I view it as a potential business endeavor to jump into when I started? No, my daughters liked it and I thought it was super cute.
Find your community, while I was volunteering on my friends farm, it came up in conversation that I had learned how to do fairy hair years before. Which weeks later lead to me volunteering at an event as the fairy hair person, then it naturally snowballed from there.
Building relationships, whether it’s with clients, neighbors, or co-workers, but actively listening to other people and developing a dialog over time can lead into fulfilling future endeavors.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I can have a tendency to spread myself thin, so I try to extend the same courtesy I would for a friend, to myself. By not being hard on them with the notion that all we can do is our best, no matter how that best looks in the moment, it can always be improved upon at a later time, but it’s not worth the grief of beating anyone up hyper fixating on it.
